Wilma peacefully passed away about 1:30am on Saturday, February 27th just shortly after her 84th birthday and into the loving arms of those that passed before her whom she has been yearning to see.
Wilma was born February 23, 1937 in the pot rock house at her Grandpa Johnson’s mill in Midway Utah to William Neils and Mildred Johnson Larsen.
Wilma attended Wasatch County Schools and graduated from Wasatch High School in 1955. She loved school and was active in multiple clubs and was a member of many committees. After High School, she attended and graduated from LDS Business College. Her many years of employment began at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in several capacities, including secretary to Elder David B. Haight. She was also a secretary for McKay, Burton, McMurray, and Thurman Law Firm, Cummins Intermountain Diesel and Associated Specialties. She finished her career at Wasatch County and loved the people she worked with. Wilma lived her entire life in the Heber Valley and her favorite view was Mount Timpanogos.
Her faith and dedication to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was first and foremost where she had many callings including Sunday School Teacher and over 20 years as ward Chorister. Wilma loved the Missionaries and helped many youth fulfill their dreams of serving a mission. She also worked in the Provo Temple for many years and cherished spending time doing the work of the Lord. She had an unwavering testimony of the Book of Mormon which she loved and had read more times than we can count.
Wilma had many talents. She was a skilled seamstress and supplemented her income to support her young family sewing for others which included wedding dresses with exquisite handwork. She also was a detailed quilter and had won a prize from the Utah State Fair. She enjoyed tatting, embroidery, crotchet and knitting which included Afghans for many family and friends. She was also an accomplished cake decorator.
She was a self-taught, free hand Calligrapher who scribed documents and certificates of all kinds, many of which were for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, one of which is displayed in the Library of Congress.
Music was an important part of her life. From her childhood singing with her sisters, to her own family sitting around the kitchen table singing together while Tony played the guitar. There was always music playing at home and she made sure her children always got to see their favorite artists perform.
Wilma loved to drive fast and was a sucker for a Ford with a big engine.
Wilma is survived by her son Jose Antonio “Tony” Chavez and daughter Kelly Lynn Rogers. She loved and was loved by her 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren who affectionately called her Grandma Willie
Our family would like to express our gratitude to Wilma’s many neighbors and ward members that visited and provided companionship and services of all kinds to her in her later years.
We would also like thank Sandy of Intermountain Home Health Hospice and the other hospice workers, the doctors and nurses of Heber Valley Medical Center/Utah Valley Regional Hospital and her Great Granddaughter Abigail McDaniel that cared for her in the last days of her life.
“I don’t drive fast, I fly low”
