Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Garry, Age 74, passed away suddenly on Wednesday January 10th, 2024, in Heber City, Utah from a heart attack. He was born on February 12th, 1949, to Tom Udel Mecham & Flora Simmons Mecham.
Garry married his high school sweetheart, Kristine Vincent Mecham on September 11th, 1970, in the Salt Lake City Temple.
He graduated from Wasatch High School and attended the Utah Valley trade school. He worked at the Utah State Park golf course before beginning his 47-year career as a custodian for the Wasatch School District.
In spite of the severe injuries Garry received in a car accident as a child, he faced life with strength, energy, enthusiasm, joy and fun! He never hesitated to do whatever needed to be done and did it well.
He and Kris were ward sports directors for several years. It was always impressive to see Garry grab a baseball bat, hold it in his left hand like a tennis racket, and knock the ball out of the park! Garry and Kris's biggest accomplishment in life was raising their 5 wonderful children. Their favorite ventures were buying, renovating and selling/renting properties and caring for their family campground. Their children and eventually grandchildren all helped with the family business. Garry enjoyed doing puzzles, pulling frequent pranks, manicuring his yard, house projects and puttering in his "Man Shed" with a whistle on his lips and a diet coke in his hand. The greatest loves of his life were his family and many dear friends. He was loved and admired by all who had the privilege to know him. He was truly our hero and will be deeply missed every single day.
Garry is proceeded in death by his parents, his sister, Linda Thompson, and his grandson, Batnyam Enhkturiin Mecham. He is survived by his sweet wife Kris, His brother Leonard (Diana), sisters Deanna, Shirley and Lori, his adoring children, Tom (Chrystal), Ben, Brian, Katie (Rico Celis), Haylie (Chris Fontes) and his 18 cherished grandchildren with whom he had an incredible bond.
Until we meet again, daddy.
