William Alan Yarbrough (Al to family and friends) was born on September 23, 1946 in Glendale, CA and died on December 30, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death by his mother Reva, father Billy Joe, and younger brother Brian.
He is survived by his children Keli Yarbrough Toutai (Polo), Kimberly Yarbrough, Kristin Yarbrough Chee (Christian), Kari Yarbrough Austin-Pugh (Edward), Caitlin Yarbrough (Blake Swendrowski), Bryce Yarbrough, and 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 1 on the way. He also leaves behind 2 brothers, John (Lynn) and Chuck (Julie).
Al was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held strong to the principle of service, as shown throughout his life: serving in the Army in Germany, his extensive work in law enforcement, and multiple church callings.
He worked for the Los Angeles Police Department in various Patrol assignments, Vice, and finally as a Lieutenant 2 in the Internal Affairs division, before he retired after 34 years of service. He then went on to work as a Commander at the Bob Hope Airport.
His last years were spent in the Swiss town of Midway, UT, where he spent his retirement fishing in Provo river, watching action movies at the local theater, attending Swiss Days, and serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Al’s mission in Salt Lake City centered around giving tours of the Conference Center in both Spanish and German, in which he was fluent.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his brothers, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Al was loved my many, and will be incredibly missed.
He will be laid to rest in Salt Lake City, Utah. The service and burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Al’s name to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT.
