Wayne McDonald, age 86, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 in Heber, Utah. He was born on August 22, 1929 in Heber, Utah to Clifford McDonald and Delores Casper McDonald. Wayne graduated from Wasatch High School and LDS Seminary in 1947. He married Mary Jane Read on November 30, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was his high school sweetheart and he has sorely missed her the past 15 years.
A member of the Heber 7th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served in many church capacities which included several years as a Provo Temple worker.
Wayne founded McDonald Cabinet Company in 1949 and operated the company for 30 years as a state licensed specialty contractor. His millwork was installed in many fine buildings throughout the U.S. Employee friendships were greatly enjoyed as he worked side by side with many young men. After the cabinet business, he started a tree farm with his family. Thousands of tender young seedlings were cared for by the family for 20 years until they were moved to beautify others homes. He truly loved working with the grandkids in the tree farm on Old Mill Road.
He was past president of the Heber Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Heber Rotary Club. Wayne served in the following county positions: Hospital Board member, chairman of Board of Adjustments, chairman of the Fair Board, chairman of Republican party and a state delegate.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in the mountains with his family. Wayne loved boating and water skiing in the summer and was still snow skiing until age 84. He kept a well groomed yard of five acres and managed to get in some golfing with special friends a long the way. He is a licensed private pilot who flew often with his brother, Russ, to many air shows in the P-51 Mustang. Flying in the Pitt’s bi-plane was an aerobatic challenge with blue skies and fluffy white clouds surrounding them.
He believed that hard work was a blessing and a benefit to ones well being. He built the two homes his family lived in after his normal work day. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they were foremost in his life.
Wayne was proceeded in death by his parents: Delores Casper McDonald and Clifford McDonald; his wife, Mary Jane Read McDonald; brother, Russel McDonald; sister, Olena McDonald Baker; and two great-grandchildren, Coleman and Trevan Sweat.
