W. Rex Reeder

June 20, 1944 — December 7, 2024

When we think of our dad, all we have are fun memories and lasting teaching moments. Although our dad wasn’t big on the “I love you’s” we never doubted his absolute love for us. His example and actions spoke volumes.

He was a truly remarkable man—devoted as a grandfather, father, husband, friend, brother, uncle, and veteran. He loved his family and friends with all his heart. After a courageous battle with cancer, he peacefully passed away on December 7th, surrounded by those who loved him.

Dad was born on June 20, 1944, in Brigham City, Utah, where he quickly became known for his playful sense of humor and lighthearted pranks. One of his memorable antics even led to his first meeting with his future father-in-law, Police Chief Johnson. That same mischievous spirit stayed with him throughout his life, always bringing laughter and warmth to those around him.

To the surprise of his parents he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - North Central States Mission.

Much to the astonishment of Police Chief Johnson, his daughter Karen Anna Johnson fell in love with Rex. They were married in the Logan Temple on Rex’s birthday—ensuring he would never forget their anniversary. Together, they enjoyed 55 happy years.

Dad had two alma maters: Utah State University for his bachelor's degree in Finance and the University of Utah for his master's degree in human resources.

Our father dedicated 31 years of service to the United States Army, including time with the prestigious Special Forces Green Berets during the Vietnam War. He rose through the ranks and retired with honor as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves.

Rex was blessed with six children, and as any father of one son and five daughters can tell you, he probably earned every gray hair he had: Cindy (Scott) Fowers, Kristen (Doni) Wilde, Maratee (Mike) Andrus, Brant Reeder, Jamie (Adam) Clarke, and Jillian Reeder. He took great joy in his 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. When he wasn’t raising Hell he was raising children… occasionally it was hard to tell the difference.

He loved experiencing new cultures and places and spending time outdoors, whether it was riding horses, boating, or skiing. Throughout his life, he served in many church callings, but he found particular joy in working with the youth. One of his most cherished roles was serving as the Bishop of the Daniel Ward for five years. In addition, he and his beloved wife served a second mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, working as military relations missionaries in Ansbach, Germany.

Rex worked as an unemployment fraud investigator for Job Service, a Senior Personnel Representative at FedEx, all while pursuing his passion for farming, enjoying the hard work and rewards of life on the farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents - Wallace and Opal Reeder, a sister Myrle Brightenburg and grandson Aaron Wilde.
