Virginia “Ubbie” Daffern

Virginia Daffern of Wheat Ridge, CO passed away peacefully after battling lung cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Daffern and survived by her children, Dale and Christy Daffern, Denise O’Brien, her grandchildren Jamie and Jessie O’Brien, and her siblings Mildred “Gig” Davis, Cheyenne Thomas and Ed Gunnyon. Virginia was a Navy veteran and a retired office manager from the Local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). She loved swimming, walking, reading, crossword puzzles and visiting with friends and family.
Virginia was born in Park City, Utah and raised by her grandmother Rose Smith and her uncle Sid Smith. She moved to Washington state in her early teens to live with her mother and step-father. There she enjoyed horseback riding with her dear friend Gladys Mesplie and flirting with boys with Gloria Jordan. She loved her high school days at Toppenish High School and enjoyed being a cheerleader with Gloria and her good friend Bobby Roth. At 18 she joined the Navy and later attended college in San Diego, CA where she met an ex-Marine named Jerry Daffern who became the love of her life. They married in Utah and moved to Denver where they raised a loving family and traveled the world together, making life-long friends in Australia and New Zealand. Virginia was a great mom and she loved her entire family circle. She surrounded herself with good people forming strong bonds with everyone she knew and will be missed by many.
Two memorial services will be held for Virginia: 2pm on May 22 at Crown Hill Chapel in Wheat Ridge, CO and at 2pm on May 27th at Probst Family Funerals in Midway, Utah.
