Vera Kingsford Higgs Smith

December 21, 1931 — February 13, 2022

Vera Kingsford Higgs Smith was born on December 21, 1931, in Kaysville, Utah, to Clarence William Higgs Sr. and Pearl Kingsford Higgs. She peacefully returned home to her sweetheart Hyrum Richard Smith on February 13, 2022, of natural causes surrounded by her family.

She married Hyrum Richard Smith on May 8, 1952, and later was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1964. They have 2 children, Nancy Lee and Ricky Lynn. They lived their married life in Heber City for 59 years until Hyrum’s passing.

She was a very caring and loving person and made sure she told everyone that she loved them. She was a very simple person and didn’t care too much about material things. The most important thing in the world was her family, close friends and the Gospel. She was very devoted to her faith in God and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served many callings, most noted are: Primary Teacher, Cub Scouts, Relief Society and a missionary calling to The Cannery.

Other than a short time, she worked at the Heber Cannery after moving here her senior year of high school. She was a homemaker and enjoyed filling her days being a Mother and a Grandma. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, sewing, reading, writing, playing the organ and singing and dancing.

In the community she served in the Lion’s Club for many years; one year they were honored as the Grand Marshals of the Wasatch County Fair Days. Additionally, she was a member of the Utah Daughters of Pioneers.

She is survived by her children Nancy Lee (Kenneth) Stratton of Heber City, Ricky Lynn (Linda) Smith of Roosevelt. Her sister Marleen Smith of Heber City, 13 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Hyrum Smith, her parents, one great- grandson Travis Lynn Batterbee, and siblings Alma Higgs, Merlin Higgs, Jenny Mcclure, Helen Barnes, Clarence Higgs Jr., Ben Higgs and Baby Higgs.

A special thanks to Heber 1st Ward for the many years of service to our Mom, Canterbury Assisted Living in Springville for their loving and kind care to our Mother and Grandmother in these final days and Tender Care Hospice.

Viewing will be held Saturday, February 19th, 2022, from 11:00am – 12:30pm, with funeral services to follow at 1:00pm, at the Heber 1st Ward Chapel, 325 East 500 North, Heber City, Utah. Burial will be in the Heber City Cemetery.
