Our beloved, cherished, & beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, Valerie Taioni Lindsay, passed away peacefully in her home on June 20th, 2017.
She was born December 13, 1926 in Joeuf, France to Romana Rumicci and Tito Taioni. She was the 6th child of 17 children; 9 girls & 8 boys.
She met her Cheri, as she called him, Tommy Lindsay during WWII in Joeuf, France. They later married after the war ended, on March 15, 1946. From then on she was called a war bride & “Frenchie” by her Cheri.
Mom, at the age of 19 ½, came to the US on the SS Brazil. Upon landing in New York, she learned that the train was on strike. So the bus it was!
Mom had been studying to be a seamstress; designing & drawing patterns. She was excellent at this & was a beautiful seamstress. She loved music, loved to dance & sing. Mom learned to knit & crochet and made many beautiful items. She also loved to bake. Her bread was the best & she was always baking it for the LDS bazaars.
Many late hours were spent eating her favorite sugar cinnamon cake and telling her war stories. We also spent many hours putting together difficult & fun puzzles. She enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles & believed looking in dictionaries & other books were considered cheating. She was the queen of Yahtzee.
She was unique & an extraordinary woman with a lot of integrity. She loved her country, family, & most of all, her Savior. By her example, we had every opportunity to learn to be hard workers & have respect for others. She is missed already. We love you Mom!
She is preceded in death by her Cheri; Tommy Lindsay, her parents, 2 brothers & 4 sisters.
She is survived by her 5 children; David Lindsay, Betty Sweat, Nancy (Mike) Morris, Scott (Kathy) Lindsay & Michele (Ed) Tate. 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren & 6 great-great grandchildren.
