Stephen Madsen Clyde

Stephen Clyde was born in Heber City, UT on January 28, 1962 to Bob and Lynette Clyde. He passed away on April 3, 2020 in Murray, UT.

The youngest of four brothers, Steve looked up to his older brothers and loved to tease his three sisters.

Steve grew up working with his family on their sheep and cattle ranches in Utah and Oregon.

Steve attended high school in Joseph, OR and graduated from Wasatch High School in Heber City in 1980. He spent the fall and winter in Joseph, where he was a successful basketball and football player and won many awards.

In the spring, he went back to Wasatch High for rodeo, where he qualified for state in bulldogging, team roping, and calf roping.

Steve loved rodeo and earned a rodeo scholarship at Utah Technical College. He qualified for the team roping finals on the Columbia River Circuit for 13 years in a row.

While rodeoing, he met Carmen Flitton at the Heppner Rodeo in August, 1983. He offered her a ride on his horse to cross a stream so she wouldn’t get her feet wet. They married on February 18, 1984.

Cassidy was born on May 15, 1989, and Cooper joined the family on October 15, 1994. He abruptly stopped his successful team roping career to support his two children.

Once Cassidy and Cooper were into sports, he spent all his spare time either in the gym, arena, or fields supporting them at every practice, game, tournament, or rodeo.

He ran chutes and spent countless hours in the arena with Cassidy, and enjoyed coaching Cooper’s basketball, football, and baseball teams.
He was so proud of his kids and their accomplishments. He always pushed them to be their very best at anything they did.

Steve worked on farms and cattle ranches in Wisconsin and Montana before moving to Washington.

Steve owned and operated Clyde Construction Company for 18 years. After selling the construction company, he became a foreman at Hanford.

He was extremely tough, both mentally and physically, and fought hard throughout his life.

Steve spent two weeks at a time as young as age seven in sheep camps away from his mom and dad. He also spent a bitter cold winter on a cattle ranch in Wise River, MT where he calved and ran elk off from the hay.

Steve had a huge heart, an infectious laugh, and loved his family more than life itself. He was a proud dad and a new grandpa to Cully Russell Keane.

He is preceded in death by his father Robert F. Clyde and brother David Clyde.

Steve is survived by Carmen Clyde of Kennewick, WA; daughter Cassidy (Clint) Keane and grandson Cully of Rock Island, WA; son Cooper Clyde of Seattle, WA; mother Lynette Clyde of Mt. Pleasant, UT; siblings Tom (Glenda) Clyde and Kathryn (Alan) Hadley of Connell, WA, Doug (Cindy) Clyde of Sandy, UT, Lynda (Bill) Boyle of Monticello, UT, Julie (Trent) Jorgensen of Mt Pleasant, UT, and Wil (Valerie) Begoody of Mesa, AZ; and many extended family members and friends.

A viewing and graveside service will be held on April 7, 2020 in Heber City.
