Shirley Joy Sweat

Shirley Joy Sweat, 96, passed away on July 19, 2023 in Heber City with her family by her side.

Shirley was born on December 26, 1926 in St. Louis Missouri, an only child to Gertrude McGuire and Lawrence Zimmer. She grew up in California and attended a boarding school when she was about 10 years old. While there she grew a love for horses. We loved to listen to the stories about her and her Mom having to move from St. Louis to California because of her Asthma. She married Boyd Sweat in 1945 and later divorced. They raised their 5 children, Dale, Steve, Mark, John and Jayne in Heber, Utah. She couldn't believe when she moved from California to the small town of Heber that she had to use an outhouse, learn how to cook on a coal stove, and did not have television yet. She never could get over how cold it was when she moved here. She was a California Girl at heart and always longed to spend more time at the beach. She had many callings and loved serving in the primary and Boy Scouts. She was a talented painter, and made crafts to sell in boutiques. She loved plants and tending to her flower and cactus gardens. She loved picnics and was always up for and adventure. She loved to go to the horse races and to Mesquite for the buffet and roulette. Most of all she loved her family.

She was blessed with a long healthy life. She enjoyed the simple things in life and was a great example to all of us on how to live and treat others. We already miss her dearly and will forever have her in our hearts.

Shirley is survived by her children Dale (Linda) Sweat, Steven Sweat, John (Barb) Sweat, Jayne Ries, 17 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her Parents; Son, Mark Sweat; Daughter-in-Law, Carol Sweat; Son-in-Law, Floyd Ries; Grandson, Spencer Sweat; Granddaughters, Kaylynn and Jessica Sweat.

A graveside service will be held at the Heber City Cemetery on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 11:45 AM . There will be a private family viewing by invite only prior to the graveside service, please contact the family if you would like to attend.
