Sherry Nall Hare was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on March 18, 1949, and passed away on Jan. 7, 2020. She grew up in the small town of Fayette, Mississippi with her three siblings: an elder sister, Nancy (Nall) Gerdon, an elder brother, Louis C. Nall Jr. (deceased), and a younger brother, Robert Nall. Her mother, Emory Lois Johnson Nall, worked in a bank her entire career and was awarded a full scholarship to university but chose instead to start her family. Her father, Louis Clayton Nall, fought in WWII and worked at the local paper mill. Together, they lived on over 500 acres of family land where they raised and showed Appaloosa horses. After graduating from Jefferson County High School with honors, Sherry moved to Atlanta, Georgia in her early twenties where she had her eldest daughter, Heather (Hare) Tesdahl in 1971. Sherry later married her husband, Melvin L. Hare, in 1976 with whom she had her younger daughter, Melanie (Hare) Seus in 1977.
In 1982 Sherry and her young family moved to the California coast, which she saw as more progressive, diverse, and full of opportunity for her daughters. She loved living in sunny Orange County where she spent weekends enjoying her favorite coastal towns of Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano. During her twenty-five years in California, Sherry worked as a Contracts Administrator in the civil engineering industry and later as a Project Manager in the security industry. She also helped to raise her eldest grandson, Sterling Lapham, with whom she maintained a close bond her entire life. She later moved to Gilbert, Arizona where she worked for the non-profit organization, Boys and Girls Clubs of the East Valley. There she was able to apply her professional skills to help others, and made deep and lasting friendships. Her final move was to Heber City, Utah in 2015 to be closer to her young grandsons that she helped care for until she fell ill. Sherry loved the slower pace of life in Utah, and could often be found exploring nature with her daughter and grandsons. Sherry and Melvin divorced in 1987 but remained close friends her entire life.
Sherry was an incredible natural beauty who was known for her striking light blue eyes. She was an avid reader her entire life and instilled the love of books in her daughters and grandsons. She also loved gardening and spending time with her beloved pets. Sherry showed her love with acts of service to her loved ones, including sewing clothing and elaborate costumes for her children and grandchildren. Sherry was a strong and independent spirit, and despite many significant obstacles throughout her life, she maintained unwavering empathy and compassion for others. Sherry passed on January 7th, 2020 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her two daughters Heather Tesdahl, a civil rights attorney in Dana Point, California, and Melanie Seus, a writer and editor for an environmental nonprofit who resides in Heber City, Utah; her grandsons Sterling Lapham, an office manager and entrepreneur in Orange County, California, and Tristan and Kellin Seus in Heber City. Her ex-husband, Melvin Hare, also continues to reside in Heber City. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Gerdon, who lives in Cumming, Georgia, but with whom she remained extremely close.
