Ruth Montgomery returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 6, 2023. She was born to Walter and Elma McDonald in 1933 in Heber City, Utah. After graduating high school, Ruth married Lovell “Chum” Ivie in 1952. They had three children, Brent, Sharlene, and Clark Ivie, which they raised in Daniels, Utah. The family could be found spending weekends camping, hunting, and fishing with extended family and friends in the mountains they loved.
When all the children were in school, Ruth went back to work. Her first job was at Burdett Apparel. After it closed, she worked at Days Market in the bakery. It was here she mastered her skills in making eclairs and baking a mean angel food cake. No one left her home without taking some sort of treat, canned goods, or leftovers. Ruth loved everyone. She excelled in taking care of others, either by sewing, baking or being a great friend.
Chum and Ruth were married over 39 years. After Chum’s passing, Ruth married Clyde Montgomery. They enjoyed 20 years of companionship raising chickens, gardening, home canning and family get togethers.
Ruth enjoyed spending her time cooking, sewing, and watching a good movie. Her true passion was for her family. She continually expressed gratitude for the love of her parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, and extended family.
There was always a cold can of pop in the fridge or a slice of strawberry shortcake to share during a visit. She loved the outdoors and going for a ride or sitting outside on the porch swing. Ruth was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived a life surrounded by those who loved her, and she will be missed.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elma McDonald, spouses Lovell “Chum” Ivie and Clyde Montgomery, and siblings Grant, Max, and Nile McDonald. She is survived by her children: Brent (Holly) Ivie, Sharlene (Andy) Pollaehne, Clark (Kathy) Ivie, seven grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren; siblings Donna Rose, Reta Sessions, Ivan McDonald, and Rex McDonald.
A special thank you to everyone that assisted Ruth. Stephanie, for temple trips and girl’s lunches. Inspiration Hospice, for their nursing and CNA staff. A special thank you for all the employees at The Peaks of Clinton, and for their kind, sincere and gentle care of Ruth. Her last few months were showered with thoughtfulness.
