Rulon Steven Sanders
January 22, 1942 — January 5, 2021
On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, Rulon Steven Sanders, loving husband and father, passed away at home at the age of 78. Steve was born on January 22, 1942 in Salt Lake City, UT to Rulon and Winifred Parry Sanders, the fifth of six children. He enjoyed an idyllic and happy childhood attending Stewart School and East High. Steve served in the British Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and afterward obtained a degree from the University of Utah before embarking on a career in commercial real estate and financial planning. On June 14, 1969, he married Sharon Teerlink in the Los Angeles Temple. Together they raised five sons and one daughter, first in Los Angeles then in Utah County. Steve and Shari retired to Midway, UT in 2014.
Steve loved sporting events of all kinds, golfing when his health permitted, listening to the stories of others, as well as charismatically sharing his own and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was always quick to laugh at a good joke. His notable one-liners will indelibly live on through his children and 12 grandchildren in whom he took tremendous interest and pride. Steve’s driving mission and greatest joy in life was providing for and supporting his family. When something was needed, he came up with it. When there was an event, no matter the time or place, he would be there “with bells on”. Despite chronic health challenges in his final years, including physical pain, Steve drew little attention to his own suffering, choosing instead to take an active, kind and genuine interest in the well-being of those he knew and loved. His cheerful greetings and reassuring words of encouragement will be missed. “Goodbye in kindness.”
Steve was preceded in death by his father and mother, Rulon and Winnie, and his siblings, John, Jane and Susan. He is survived by his wife Shari; his sons, Jeffrey (Rina), Jonathan (EddisLynn) Joseph, James (Nicole) and Jason; his daughter Sara (Micah Pullins); and his sisters, Carolyn Hillam and Nancy Jones.
A funeral service for family and close friends will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Midway West Stake Center, 165 N. Center St. in Midway, UT. Burial will follow at the Midway City Cemetery, 600 W 500 S in Midway, UT.
