Ronald Reed Crittenden

April 27, 1949 — February 20, 2024

Ronald Reed Crittenden passed away February 20th, 2024 at the age of 74 after battling multiple health issues.

Ron was born April 27th, 1949 in Coalville, Utah to Edmund ‘Ted’ and Pauline Crittenden. He was their oldest son followed by Norman, Kendall, DeAnn and Cindy.

Ron grew up in rural Hoytsville, Utah. He loved living close to both sets of grandparents and other family. He learned so much from them and his parents. They were all hard workers, a trait Ron learned and taught his own kids. He enjoyed playing outdoors and having adventures with brothers, uncles, cousins and friends. Although his family did not have much money, he had a happy childhood. In high school he enjoyed FFA, debate, and sports.

Ron served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Southeast Mexico. He loved being a missionary, loved the people and culture, and the archeology of Mexico. This love stayed with him throughout his life. He has always gotten along well with the Latino people. He was called to serve in the Heber Spanish Branch when it first started. He served as a Spanish court translator for a time. He was always willing to help anyone that needed any kind of help. He returned to Mexico many times following his mission and began taking people on tours in Mexico as a career for many years.

Ron attended BYU, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He also found a cute California girl to become his wife. Ron married Sandra Jean Homer on May 19th, 1973, shortly after they both graduated from BYU. They soon moved to Heber, which was a wonderful place to raise their family of six sons and one daughter. He helped Sandy learn to be a ‘Utah’ girl, growing a garden, canning food, and she learned to tolerate camping. The family enjoyed many activities together, but especially hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, father/son camps, fun vacations, and trips to Mexico.

He had many careers and jobs including doing taxes, selling insurance, real estate and doing tours. He worked nine years in Congress for Howard Nelson as State Director. He was also the Wasatch County Treasurer and on the Heber City Council. In addition, he was involved and passionate about our country, freedom, and being well informed about the issues. He always stood up for what he believed.

He loved the church and the Book of Mormon. He held various callings, but his favorites were Bishop, Scout Master, and his callings with the Spanish Branch. He was committed to home teaching. He loved his family and friends. He enjoyed serving, reading, dancing, playing the guitar, talking (debating), trips to Mexico, hunting, finding a bargain, family camp, Gunsmoke, Fox News, Burger King, Dr. Pepper and collecting boxes.

SURVIVED BY: His Wife, Sandy; Children: Curtis, Craig, Christina, Corey, Chad, Casey, and Cody (Carolina).
