Robert (Bob) Dean Young peacefully returned home to his Heavenly Father on February 24, 2022 at age 78, after a very valiant battle with cancer. Bob was born August 5, 1943 in Moab, Utah to Desmond Dean Young and Inez Elaine Johnson Young.
From a young age Bob had a deep love of nature, animals, and the Native American people. Bob could often be found exploring the hills around his father's farm searching for hieroglyphs and many other treasures.
Bob graduated from Grand County High School in 1961 after which he continued his education at Southern Utah State College where he studied Forest and Range Management and then graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Animal Reproduction and Physiology. His love for animals and solving complex issues led him to a career as a Lab Manager for Intermountain Beef Breeders, and eventually on to Intermountain Farmers Association (IFA) where he was a Livestock Nutritionist for 30 years before retiring.
At a Valentines Dance in 1986 his life changed forever when he met the love of his life, RoLayne Hilton. Later that year they were married on May 31 and were sealed a year later in the Provo LDS temple for time and all eternity. They have been dancing ever since.
Bob was firm in his faith as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in many callings including as Elders Quorum President, Sunday School President, Family History Consultant, nursery leader to many young children who adored him and faithful home teacher to many families who became lifelong friends. Bob loved to serve all around him. He and RoLayne loved attending the temple together and had the opportunity to serve as missionaries at the Lindon Cannery Crop Farm.
He made friends with everyone he met. He was a loving example to all who knew him but particularly to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Bob had a deep love for his immediate family, extended family, and many friends who became just like family through his love for them.
Earlier in his life he enjoyed playing various sports including basketball, baseball, and once beat out the boys on the high school track team running in his moccasins. He also spent time bronc riding and worked as a wrangler on multiple movies sets, including Comancheros where he made a brief appearance. He once found a special stone that he loved and treasured for many years before making it into a tomahawk when he finally found just the right stick for its handle.
His family has fond memories of his enthusiastic love of telling stories about the adventures he had throughout his life, his ability to always make us laugh, and the Native American flute music his wife played for him which spoke right to his heart and soul.
He is now happily reunited with his parents Des and Inez Young, his son Rdean Young, brother Les Young along with other extended family and friends. He is survived by his wife, RoLayne Hilton Young, his children Bobbi Sue Young Gray (Larry), Justin Swain (Melanie), Kimber Swain, and RuthAnn (Roxy) Driggs (Brandon). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and his sister, Arlene Farnsworth.
Those closest to Bob describe him as a man of virtue, who was proud of his Native American Heritage, always strong, loving, kind, and a perpetual jokester. Above all, he was one who was a chivalrous gentleman right up to the end, caring for his wife and honoring her as his queen, putting others above himself, holding doors for women even as he was struggling himself. His lasting legacy will be his deep, genuine love of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday March 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Timpview 4th Ward Chapel (1075 W. 1100 N. Orem, UT). Viewings Thursday, March 3rd from 7-9 p.m., and Friday, March 4th from 8:30-10:30 a.m. both at the Timpview 4th Ward LDS Church.
Interment will be in the Heber City Cemetery.
A special thanks to Bob's loving and gentle IHC Hospice team, Kim (nurse), Joylynn (aide), and Kelly (volunteer). And also, to his daughter Kimber who was always cheerfully loving and serving him right until the end.
