Robert Max Gines passed away quietly in his St. George home on April 14, 2022, just three days shy of celebrating 68 Years of Marriage to our wonderful mother.
Dad was born on July 10, 1930, the third child of Moral (Shake) Gines and Theo Mitchell Gines. Life was not easy for this little family during the depression but they survived and passed along a strong sense of family, the value of hard work, to be honest and just a bit of humor. Values passed down to his children, grandchildren and all the future generations to come.
Dad graduated from Tabiona High School in 1948. He has been a logger, served in the Army from August 14, 1951 to July 19, 1953, a farmer, miner, custodian, butcher, bus driver, horseman and Jazz Fan. He married his sweetheart, Veola Sweat, on April 17, 1954. They were later sealed for Time and All Eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 14, 1968.
Their first home was in Kearns, Utah where they began their legacy. Julie Ann, Bonnie Annette, Robert Bart, Tommy Theo and Jeannie Ranae were all born here. David Scotty and Kellian finished up the family after we moved to Riverton, Utah.
Dad and Mom moved back to the place that was always home, Tabiona, Utah. Becoming snowbirds, they enjoyed the warm winters and friendships they built in St. George but always made it home in the spring.
Dad had an amazing 91 years. He was quick to laugh, always had a joke or story. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he read his Scriptures daily.
He was honest, loved to spend time on the farm, riding his side by side and looked forward to the Gines Family Reunion every August at Silver Meadows. Hitching up the horses, wagon rides with the Kamas side, fires, food and family. These memories will always be cherished.
Dad is survived by his wife, Veola Sweat Gines and six children, Julie Gines, Annette (Alex) Churchich, Daughter-in-law Annette (Bart) Gines, Tommy Gines, Ranae (Travis) Fabrizio, Scott (Jill) Gines and Kellian (Rick) Giles. Brother Dale (Linda) Gines, Sister-in-laws: Carma (Jim) Giles, Verda Sweat Benson, Ranae (Larry) Gines. 29 Grandchildren and 48 Great-grandchildren.
Celebrating in Heaven with his parents, sisters Deloris and Jean. Son, Bart Gines and grandson, R.J. Giles.
