Robert Tyler Ford, age 78, died on June 2, 2023, at home with his wife in Heber City, Utah, after a 23-year battle with cancer and Lewy Body Dementia.
Robert was born September 13, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York to Edith Talcott Tyler and Rear Admiral Robert Stephens Ford. Robert spent much of his childhood traveling the world with his father on warships moving from various US Naval posts, his favorite of which was Guam. Robert started college playing football at the University of Colorado, and received his MBA from San Jose State University.
Robert was a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army, and flew medical evacuations among many other dangerous missions during the Vietnam War in 1970 and 1971. He married Pamela Leighton in Monterey, California on November 9, 1974.
Robert and Pamela shared their first home in Gilroy, California, where they welcomed their two children Heather and Tyler, while Robert pursued his career in aviation. He began in chartered corporate flights and transitioned to commercial airlines, which led his family to live in Sterling, Virginia, Boca Raton, Florida and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Upon retiring, Robert and Pamela relocated to the Wasatch Mountains before setting a record for purchasing more time shares than any other living person. Robert’s love of skiing led him to work in Guest Services at the Deer Valley Resort where he would ski for the next ten years while watching his family thrive.
He is survived by his wife Pamela, his daughter Heather (Gregg) Bowman of Rigby, Idaho; his son Tyler (Jackie) Ford of Salt Lake City, Utah; his brother Stephen (Joann) Ford of Lake Forest, California; and his 7 grandchildren Lyndsay Bowman, Bruin Bowman, Addison Bowman, Paige Bowman, Felix Ford, Kade Bowman, and Stella Ford.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Edith.
A celebration of life is being planned for friends and family.
Donations can be made in honor of Robert to Wounded Warrior Project, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
