Richard Edwards Schankel passed away on March 31, 2023, he was 76. Rick was born in Seattle, WA to Eleanor and Richard M. Schankel.
Growing up he lived in various locations throughout the United States as his father was in the Air Force. He loved Scouting and was a proud Eagle Scout. Rick attended high school in Lompoc, CA where he was an outstanding student and athlete. He graduated cum laude from University of California, Santa Barbara with majors in Biochemistry and Zoology while also a member of the Cross Country team. Upon graduation he entered the United States Air Force where he had a 20 year career and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. While he had many examples of success in his military career, most notable was his work in the Strategic Air Command. While in active duty Rick earned his MBA with a specialty in the Aviation Industry from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 1983. After his retirement from the military he joined Rockwell International (now Boeing) until his retirement.
While working at Rockwell, Rick met his eternal sweetheart Susan and they were married in the spring of 1991. Rick and Susan have been nearly inseparable ever since. Rick loved being active and loved running, going to the gym, cycling, mountain biking, skiing, cars, stereo systems, and traveling. But most of all he loved family and loved to share his passions with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He has been a consistent, guiding presence in each of their lives. In 2003, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed serving, especially with the children in Primary and with the Young Single Adults.
