Ralph Albert Miles

August 11, 1942 — April 8, 2023

Ralph Albert Miles, passed away on April 8, 2023 in his home in Snyderville. He was born on August 11, 1942, in the Miners Hospital in Park City, to Milton & Oral Miles. He married, the love of his life, Karan Durrant, on December 18, 1962, they were later Sealed in the Temple. He loved the family that she provided him. Their Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were so cherished and he looked forward to spending eternity with them.

He was passionate about his career and the many accomplishments he achieved. He graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forest Management. Ralph spent 36 years in the field of Forestry, Land and Wildlife Management. He served under Governor Matheson and Bangerter as the Director of State Land and Forestry from 1981-1987. He will be remembered as being responsible for the passage of the Habitat Authorization Bill, which resulted in over $2M annually for Wildlife Management, maintenance, and habitat projects. He had the privilege of participating in the perpetual preservation and enhancement of thousands of acres of fish, wildlife habitat, and public access to those resources. He retired as the Assistant Director of Division of Wildlife Resources in 1998. In retirement, he spent 7 years on the Provo River Restoration project in the Heber Valley, acquiring parcels along the Provo River corridor for angler access to the Blue-Ribbon fishery.

In his spare time Ralph could be found in Lake Powell recreating with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. His favorite pastime was hanging out in his yard barbequing, gardening and visiting with loved ones. Ralph enjoyed playing and watching every sport known to mankind. Go Aggies!

He leaves behind a special legacy for his family. He is survived by his Children, Anita Miles, Suzie (Troy) Packard, Barry Miles, Marty Miles, Malynda (Jared) Faigle. Grandchildren Josh (Katie) Packard, Alisha Johnson, Damon Johnson, Hayden (Kaitlyn) Packard, Caleigh Packard, Halle (Jonathan) Miles-Lee, Taylor Miles, and Lexie Packard. Great Grandchildren Shilo, Blake, and one more on the way.
He is preceded in death by Wife Karan and Sons Tony and Eric.

A viewing will be held at the LDS Synderville Ward, 510 East Silver Summit Parkway in Park City, on April 20, 2023 from 6-8pm. Funeral services April 21, 2023 at noon and interment to follow at the Park City Cemetery. If so inclined, please donate to a local wildlife conservation charity of your choice.
