Paul B. Van Alstine, of Heber City, and a resident of The Abbington Senior Living residences, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of eighty-five, on Monday, July 18, 2016. The Memorial Service was held at The Abbington on July 21, 2016. Pastor Cliff Gregory, of High Point Church, presided.
Paul is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Kathryn Joan Van Alstine, and his four children: Paula Alferness of Elk Grove, California; Dayle Van Alstine of Midway, Utah; Thomas Van Alstine of Farnhamville, Iowa; and Chris Davis of San Mateo, California. In addition, he is survived by five grandchildren.
Paul was born in Bradgate, Iowa, on October 20, 1930, and raised in Plover, Iowa. He graduated from Plover High School in 1948.He served in the United States Army from September 1951 until January 1954. While in the Army he acquired skills in radio and electronic technology, and was able to find a career in the neophyte aerospace industry in California upon his separation from service. He began a series of employment with Ryan Aircraft, Consolidated Aircraft, General Dynamics, and finally Lockheed-Martin. During these years he worked on a variety of projects, including the F-102 and F-106 Interceptors, and numerous models of the Atlas missile, and received a B.A. in Public Policy at California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, California. He retired from the aerospace industry while working at Vandenberg Air Force Base, and living in Santa Maria, California. During his time in Santa Maria he pursued his lifelong passion of singing barbershop. He was the Director of The Caballero Chorus, and then sang bass in the Central City Chordsmen Quartet for a number of years. He and his wife, Kathryn, moved to Midway in 2008.
He is preceded in death by his father, Edward; his mother, Elizabeth; and his brothers, MacEwan, Sturdy, David, Cameron, and Calvin.
