Paul B. Rasband, 53, discovered dead 10 February, 2017, in Fremont, CA. He was born in Heber City, Utah, on Dec. 13, 1963, to Neil C. And VaLois Smith Rasband. He attended Wasatch High School and was a Regional Sterling Scholar winner his Senior year. He graduated in May, 1982, sharing valedictory honors with 3 of his classmates.
Paul attended BYU, earning both Bachelors & Masters degrees and then earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University. While attending BYU he met Cecily Creighton and they were married on Aug. 2, 1985 in the Los Angeles Temple. Paul had an entrepreneurial spirit and with a few coworkers, started up a small company, VUE Technology, which later sold to Tyco Corp. When the company was sold, Paul became employed by Tyco as a research engineer and has been there for the last 8 years. Paul was an exemplar of lifelong learning, and subsequently became a foremost expert in chemical modeling, radio frequency identification, wireless sensor networks, and artificial intelligence.
As his children grew, and his 2 older boys married, Paul welcomed their wives with open arms and was over-joyed with the arrival of his 2 grandchildren. He dearly loved his children and supported them in any and every way possible. He was generous to a fault, with family, friends and associates. He even purchased a bicycle for a young man he was home teaching in Florida who needed to look for work and had no transportation.
Paul was an active member of the LDS church. He earned his Eagle Scout award just as he was turning 13 years old. He was President of his Priesthood quorums and of his Seminary class. In 1983-84 he served a mission in the Japan, Osaka, mission. He also served in a bishopric and a branch presidency, and was Gospel Doctrine teacher at the time of his death. His dreams for the future were cut short when he was suddenly called home. He will be dearly missed.
