Paul Holt Mitchell

September 17, 1934 — August 31, 2017

Paul Holt Mitchell 82 passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons Disease.

Paul was born in Spanish Fork, Utah on Sept. 17, 1934 to Frost and Bernice Holt Mitchell. He had the honor of being the first Eagle Scout in the Spanish Fork Fifth Ward. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1952. He married LaRue Forsey on August 24, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1961 the family moved to Heber City so Paul could manage the Forsey Variety Store. He later was the clerk and recorder for Heber City for many years. Paul spent his last 25 years of employment working for the Wasatch County School District where he taught the younger grades of students how to swim. He also ran the community pool for everyone to enjoy.

Paul served faithfully in many church callings but the one he enjoyed most was that of being a Scout Master in both Spanish Fork and Heber. He helped many scouts receive their Eagle Award. Paul was awarded the Silver Beaver for his many years of service. Paul served as President of the Heber Valley Jaycees and later was a state Vice President. He also was a member of the Wasatch County Sheriffs Patrol and a scuba diver. He earned his black belt in Karate and taught many classes. Paul loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Pheasant hunting was his favorite. He loved to tease his grand kids and they all adored him and kept coming back for more. He will be greatly missed.

Paul is survived by his wife LaRue of 63 years and his children Gordon (Cherie) of Heber; Bruce (Patti) of Kamas and Kathy Davis of Gainsville, Florida. He is also survived by brothers David (Judy) of Preston, Idaho; Douglas of Mt Pleasant; sisters Joan North of Tooele and Peggy (Paul) Cragun of Tooele. They were also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister June and grandsons Chad and Cody Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at the Heber 12th Ward (1205 W 650 S. Southfield Rd., Heber City, Utah). Viewing will be from 6-8 pm on Friday, Sept. 8, and 11-11:45am on Saturday, Sept 9, prior to the funeral at the same location. Burial will be at the Heber City Cemetery.
