Nelson Arthur Carter

Nelson Arthur Carter, 76, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at his home in Heber City, Utah. He was born on January, 19, 1946, in Ely, Nevada, to Arthur Nelson Carter and Dale Johanna Carter. He grew up in Lund, Nevada, where his family were ranchers and also served the community by running the post office, general store, and phone switchboard.

Nelson lived a life of service. He loved his family, his faith, and his country. He derived great joy from cultivating his land and caring for animals. As a community banker with Zion’s Bank and property rights consultant, he enjoyed connecting with his community where clients became friends and friends became clients. He also held various leadership positions with the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce and local Boy Scouts of America program. He loved helping people with their genealogy and has served as a family history missionary for the past four years. He was an integral part of his ward, serving most recently as a ward clerk for over ten years and providing countless acts of service. Nelson cared deeply for others and often went out of his way to serve his family and neighbors. Travel was also a passion of his, and he studied abroad in Israel. His grandchildren enjoyed him spoiling them with ice cream and delighting them with his silly jokes.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Lynn Hintze Carter; sisters Ilene (Stephen) Ferris and Anita Helton; children Eric (Tamsyn), Amie (Michelle), Daniel (Joell), Ryan (Tracie), and Spencer; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Dale Carter, brother Philip (Ludean) Carter, and his son, Gregory (Nathan) Brennan. He is loved and will be missed.

On Thursday, June 2, there will be a viewing at 9:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m at the LDS meetinghouse at 6250 East 1200 South in Heber City. The funeral will be livestreamed and recorded by Heber Valley Funeral Home handling the arrangements. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Eastlawn Memorial Hills, 4800 North 650 East in Provo, Utah.
