Neil “D” Fortie passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, after a lengthy battle with the effects of Agent Orange contracted during his military service in the 1960’s. He was the third of six children born to Mark and Alice Broadbent Fortie in Heber City, Utah on April 5, 1945. He was active in sports and graduated from Wasatch High School where he lettered in football. He attended USU for one year then entered the US Air Force and served one tour of active duty in Vietnam.
When he returned from military service he worked in the commercial building construction business for many years. Later he was employed with the Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation Department where he worked as a supervisor until his retirement.
Neil was a beloved brother, uncle and friend and was well liked by all who knew him. He has many lifelong friends whom he has associated with for many years. He loved to play golf, and he both supported and played in numerous charity tournaments helping to raise money for needy causes. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He had a favorite car, an Infinity sport convertible, which he cared for like a baby. It was rarely driven farther than the end of his driveway then back into the garage where it spent most of its life. Some years he would log as many as 200 miles on this sporty machine!
Neil is survived by four of his siblings: Mark Wayne Fortie (Cheryl), Keith J. Fortie (Becky), Colleen Turner (Boyd), and Karolyn Mickelson (Calvin). He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark Jeffs Fortie and Alice Broadbent Fortie, and one brother, Brent Fortie.
