Nadene Sweat Probst

NaDene Sweat Probst had a peaceful return to her Heavenly Father and many waiting loved ones on February 13, 2016. “Love you the mostest” was her byline and the words she lived by. Anyone who knew her felt of that love and acceptance. She was a model mother and wife and is loved by many, in and out of her family.

She was born on February 17, 1929 to her loving parents Alvie and Elizabeth Sweat. She had four adoring brothers whom she cared for like a mother. She spent her youth in Center Creek, Utah, loving those around her and enjoying the carefree life of a well-loved, happy child.

At a Friday night dance, she met a tall, dark and handsome guy from Midway, Kay F. Probst, and they quickly fell in love. She wrote him a letter everyday of his LDS mission and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple when he returned home. They were loving companions for 66 years.

They were blessed with six children who are more than happy to call her “mom”: Brenda (John Price), Randall (Deanna), Julie (Greg Wheeler), Rex (Patty), Jane (Jim Skidmore) and Blake (Sheri). And because of those children she was very proud to have 27 grandchildren and their spouses, 66 great grandchildren and spouse and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Her unwavering faith was well understood and depended upon by her entire family. When a problem would arise, everyone would request that Grandma pray for them and they knew they would receive answers to their prayers. She was diligent in living the gospel, as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and held numerous formal callings from stake Relief Society President to Cub Scout leader. Her visiting teaching messages were legend and she sent them to women throughout the United States. She and her dear companion served an LDS mission to Richmond Virginia.

If she wasn’t holding a baby or comforting someone, she could be found compiling the family newsletter with her amazing computer skills. She was the original scrapbook lady and loved her papers and pencils.

Although she faced a variety of unusual and serious health problems, her philosophy was to “keep going.” She would always say, “I can hurt and stay home, or I can hurt and go help others.” She was a true example of persistence, faith, and good works.

She worked as a bank teller in her younger years and as the secretary for the Heber Light and Power Company after her children were raised, but mostly, she worked to provide a safe and loving place for anyone who entered her home. None of us really know all the lives she touched with her generous, giving ways.

She will be remembered for the thousands of birthday, congratulations and thoughtful cards she sent to her family as well as members of the community. Giving was her nature and nothing made her happier than to be able to provide people with the things they needed.

She is survived by her husband, Kay, three brothers LaVar (Mary), Duane (Janet), Evan (Carolyn), her children and spouses, 25 grandchildren and spouses, 66 great grandchildren and spouse, 2 great great grandchildren, and foster grandson (Benjamin Johnson). She was preceded in death by her parents, grandchildren (Brooke and Brant Probst) and her brother Theon (Donna).

We were blessed to have her in our lives for so many years and know she is now rejoicing with those loved ones who passed before her. While we all tried to show her our love, in the end, she probably did “love us the mostest!”

Funeral services will be held at the Deer Creek Ward Building (1102 South Center, Midway, Utah), Wednesday, February 17th at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:30-10:30. There will also be a viewing at the Deer Creek Ward Building on Tuesday, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
