Our beloved mother and grandmother, Millie McMillin, began a new journey on September 4th, 2025, in Heber City, Utah. Her infectious personality and kind energy will very much be missed. Millie was all heart.
Mildred Mae was born to Jay and Olga Moomey near Cadillac, Michigan in 1934. She was the eighth of nine children. Her family operated a dairy farm for much of her childhood, and they loved to spend free time composing and playing music, a pastime that Millie never outgrew. In 1954, Millie traveled west to join her sister Marie in Orem, Utah and attended Brigham Young University. There, she met and married Dan Leroy Nichols and in 1957, had one son (Steve). After Dan’s untimely death in 1961, Millie worked as a Secretary at Sperry Rand, where she met, and in 1963 married, engineer Bruce Elwood McMillin. In 1966 a second son (Scott) joined the family, and Millie became a full-time mother and housewife in the Sugarhouse neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah.
In 2002 Millie moved to Park City, Utah to be closer to her granddaughter (Kaci) from which they cultivated an incredible relationship. Millie very much enjoyed the mountain lifestyle by actively hiking, running, visiting with essentially anyone she encountered, and frequenting the local concerts, garage sales, shops and farmers’ markets. She was an avid shopper and loved outdoor activities, rain or shine! Millie always had fresh fruit and bakery goods on-hand to share. During her 91 years, Millie also enjoyed painting, anthropology, geology, golfing, skiing, motorcycle riding, fishing, canoeing, traveling, and camping. She was a beautiful woman inside and out, and she and will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity. In her last days, the family was touched by the dozens of friends, relatives, as well as caring staff members from Spring Gardens Heber and Ability Hospice that came to visit her and show gratitude for their shared experiences and memories.
Millie is survived by sons Steve (Deb), Scott (Gwen) and granddaughter Kaci. She is preceded in death by brothers Miles, John, Elmer, and Albert, sisters Marie, Ann, Louise, and Rosetta, and many fur babies including her favorite grand-pup, Pixel.
No formal funeral services are planned. At Millie’s request, her family will hold a celebration of life during which time her ashes will be scattered at her favorite place on earth, near Bridger Lake, in the Uintah Mountains
