Michael Joseph Thorwegen
1970-2024

Heber City, Utah – Michael Joseph Thorwegen passed away on Sunday, August 4th at his home in Heber City, Utah. Michael was born on September 13, 1970 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Edward Thorwegen (d. 2018) and his wife Niki (d. 2022).

Michael was a loving husband, having been married to his wife Jill for almost 19 years, and together for 6 years before that. They met and lived in Colorado and then moved to Heber City, and were joined by two beautiful children – son Jaxon Edward (15) and daughter Aquinnah Jane (13). Michael was a proud and doting parent, and you could often see him taking the trailer out to go camping with his family, riding his one-wheel with Jaxon or teaching Aquinnah the finer points of cooking (his Swedish meatballs, ribs and wings were all legendary). He always had time for his family and gave his children the best of himself at every turn.

Sports and music were Michael’s twin passions – anyone who knew him could tell you about his devotion to southern jam band Widespread Panic and live music in general. When he wasn’t enjoying that, he was keenly following the fortunes of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and our own Utah Utes. Perhaps most of all, Michael was ecstatic to see his beloved Atlanta Braves win the World Series in 2021, though it could be argued that his many victories in fantasy football and baseball also resonated with him. Michael didn’t just watch though – you could just as easily see him carving up the local slopes on his snowboard, playing 18 holes on the links or slinging the frisbee around.

Michael also proved to be a pillar of the community. Many will fondly remember him as a hard-working and dedicated State Farm agent, never wavering in his steadfast commitment to his customers. Starting in 2020, his skill and passion saw him triple the value of his book of business, and several lucky bowlers at Holiday Lanes were beneficiaries of his sponsorship after completing perfect games. Outside of work, Michael dedicated his time and effort with the Soldier Hollow Charter Schools board, always doing his best for the students in the area.

However you knew Michael, all would agree that he is badly missed by anyone lucky enough to have met him.

Michael is survived by his wife Jill, son Jaxon, daughter Aquinnah, and sisters Maria Kelly, Laura Pepper, and Kristina Thorwegen.
