Mother...
has ears that truly listen,
arms that always hold,
love that’s never ending
and a heart that’s made of gold.
Maxine Duke Payne, our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor passed away the morning of June 21, 2020 at her home in Heber City, Utah.
Maxine was born on July 2, 1931 in Heber City, Utah to Lois Briggs-Fox . She was raised by Guy and Gladys Duke along with their kids: Jim, Bob, Donna and Glenna. She attended schools in Heber City and graduated from Wasatch High School.
On November 10, 1951 she married her high school sweetheart Farrell Payne. They made their home in Heber City, Utah.
Maxine retired from Wasatch County School District after working in the kitchen serving thousands of students for over 37 years. Maxine’s favorite time was spent working in her flower gardens. She was known for the most immaculate yard on Center Street. Maxine loved music and enjoyed concerts. Maxine had a love for animals, especially cats. Every neighborhood stray somehow found their way to her home.
Maxine was a loving lady who devoted everything to her family. Maxine especially loved the title of “Grandma”. You could always count on Maxine being on the front row of every dance recital or clogging competition cheering on her grandchildren.
Maxine enjoyed visiting with her friends and neighbors and spending time with her family. She loved camping and picnics in the mountains. Every year she looked forward to our annual Ranger ride and hot dog roast.
In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by her sisters: Pat, Kaye, Judy and Francis. Maxine is survived by her daughter Marcia Hyde of Park City, Utah and her son Kent (Susan) Payne of Wallsburg, Utah. She also has two very special grand-daughters, Lindsey and Callie, and has 7 great-grandchildren that she loved dearly: Trae, Drayden, Jax, Liam, Khloe, Kreed and Lincoln.
