In Loving Memory of Mary Lue Waldbeiser Duke

Mary Lue Waldbeiser Duke, age 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 20, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on November 2, 1946, to John and Toma Waldbeiser.

Mary Lue graduated from Wasatch High School and attended BYU, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. She had a deep love for children and education and spent more than 20 years teaching first and second grade in the Kamas and Heber Valleys. Her students and the families she served remained an important part of her life.

Mary Lue fell in love with and married Bill Duke in the Salt Lake City Temple in February 1971. Together, they built a beautiful family and were blessed with seven children: Jane (deceased), Lisa (Matt Weller), Will (Sonya), Justin (Christy), Jared (Julie), Tyrell (Heidi), and Jacob (Shannon). Later, Mary Lue and Bill were blessed with 23 grandchildren, who brought great joy to their lives.

Mary Lue is survived by her children, her sister Gloria (Allen) Huffaker; and sisters-in-law Mary Duke, Nioma Duke and Margene (David) Lake.

Mary Lue was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout her life, she served in many callings, particularly in Young Women, Relief Society, and as a Ward Chorister. Her faith was an important part of who she was, and she loved serving others.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Barbara Thacker and Kathryn Berg for their many years of weekly visits and car rides around the Heber Valley. We are also grateful to Audrey Stembridge, Roger Scott, and the many other hospice caregivers who provided loving care and support over the years.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill Duke, her daughter Jane, her parents John and Toma Waldbeiser, her sister Julie Waldbeiser, and her parents-in-law Howard and Ellen Duke.

Mary Lue will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and all whose lives she touched. Her love, faith, kindness, and devotion to her family will be remembered and cherished for generations.

A celebration of Mary Lue’s life will be held on October 2, 2026, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at the church building located at 2395 S. Mill Road, Heber City, UT 84032.

There will be a Graveside Service at the Heber City Cemetery at 9 a.m. on Saturday October 3, 2026
