After a courageous battle with lymphoma, Mary Louise Gilotti, 82, passed away peacefully in her Midway, Utah, home on May 9, 2026, with her husband and son by her side. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, living by her guiding principles: Be kind, trust yourself, and have fun.

Mary Lou was born on April 30, 1944, in Allentown, PA, to Willis and Grace Diehl of Lehighton, PA. Raised on a farm, she was active in 4-H and spoke proudly of her Pennsylvania State Grand Champion steer, Rocky, and her pony, Buckaroo. Upon graduating from Lehighton Area High School, she attended Muhlenberg University in Allentown, earning a bachelor’s degree in education. She also earned a master’s degree from East Stroudsburg University. After teaching elementary school for eight years, Mary Lou had a successful career as real estate broker and appraiser — the first female to hold those titles in Carbon County, PA. She represented Northeast Land Company in the Poconos and March Development in the Lehigh Valley before founding, with her husband, Gilotti Appraisal Services.

Mary Lou continued to pave the way for women becoming the first female in Carbon County to achieve a Level 3 Professional Ski Instructors of America certification. She taught skiing for 15 years at Elk Mountain, and more recently, was a group leader at Deer Valley Resort with the Park City Mountain Sports Club, for which she was a 20-year member.

Through all seasons, Mary Lou was active: gardening, golfing, hiking, biking, and skiing— all at which she excelled. Among her accomplishments were hiking Mount Timpanogos and the Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim Trail, both as a septuagenarian. Mary Lou valued her relationships with family and friends and loved spending time with them, hosting dinner parties, playing mahjong, and traveling across the U.S. and Europe. Among her favorite travels were family trips to the beach at Spring Lake, NJ, Italy, and a Mediterranean cruise with her granddaughters. She epitomized “work hard, play hard,” lived by the “the golden rule,” and left an indelible mark on those who loved her.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 57 years, Vince Gilotti; her son and daughter-in-law, Trevor and Sally Gilotti; her granddaughters, Madison and Ella (to whom she was Gigi); her sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Will Slotter, Michele and Charles Glantz, and Noni and Jay Rifenbary; and numerous nieces and nephews, and their families.

Family and friends are invited to attend a service in honor of Mary Lou at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 22 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church 1505 White Pine Canyon Rd, Park City, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Nuzzles and Co. at nuzzlesandco.org/give.
