Mary Jo Coleman Adamson

On August 2, 2021, Mary Jo Coleman Adamson passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Heber City, Utah on February 1, 1938 to Joseph and Stella Gordon, Mary Jo grew up on a large farm in Daniel’s Creek with her parents and five siblings. After graduating from Wasatch High School, she married Keith Coleman from Heber City in 1956. Together they raised two children: Scott and Juliee Jo.

Mary Jo was a talented and award-winning hairdresser who operated Jo’s Hair Salon for a number of years. She was devoted to her large clientele and delighted in helping each person look and feel their best. She successfully juggled her time between the salon, her family and the Coleman family ranch in Fruitland, Utah, where she often helped Keith in his work. She treasured the natural beauty and seclusion of the expansive property where she created a charming and pleasant second home for her family. After Keith’s death in 1989, she took over the enormous challenge of managing their ranch with only her young son to help her. With determination, courage and hard work she persevered.

In 2005, Mary Jo married David Adamson. Together, they have enjoyed life in Yuma, Arizona, St. George, and most recently in Heber City.

Blessed with a gift for singing and other musical abilities, Mary Jo generously shared her talent with others. She stayed busy performing at events of all types throughout most of her life. Compassionate to the core, she never refused any of many requests to sing at funerals. As an active member of the LDS Church, Mary Jo most loved using her musical talents in service of her heavenly father.

Among other church callings, she served as a Relief Society President and a popular teacher of adult Sunday school classes. She also liked working on genealogy and preserving family history.

Energetic, vivacious and generous, Mary Jo made friends wherever she went. By her example, she inspired them to find the best within themselves. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, but the light of her spirit will endure in the many lives she has positively touched.

A beautiful voice has been added to the angel choir.

Mary Jo is preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Keith Coleman. She leaves behind her spouse, David Adamson; two children: Scott Coleman (Melanie) and Julie Jo Clark (Boyd). She was the proud grandmother of Stacee Coleman (Kim), Cody Coleman (Brittney), Bert Coleman (Shari), Shaylee Young (Dane) and Hailee Coleman, and great grandmother to Paislee, Gwen, Lyra, Watson, and Coleman.

She also leaves behind four stepchildren: Alan Adamson (Mary Ellen), David Adamson (Melanie), Kevin Adamson (Janna), and Steve Adamson (DeeDee). She greatly enjoyed being the step-grandparent of eleven children and the step-great-grandparent of five children.

Her surviving siblings are: Elaine Murdock (Richard), Tom Gordon (Sheri), Annette Bethers (Steven), Bill Gordon, and Joseph Gordon (Jennifer).
