Marjorie (Margie) Brachman was born in Springfield, MA, January 30, 1926 to Sarah and Nathaniel
Blacher. When she was 3 years old, the family drove to the Southern California, where she lived in West Los Angeles until moving to Midway, Utah in 2007 with her husband, Bennett Brachman, to be closer to her granddaughter and her family.
She lived at home in Midway, her daughter staying with her for increasing amounts of time, until she
passed peacefully at the age of 98 on December 1, 2024, her daughter and granddaughter by her side.
Her life was marked by varying accomplishments. As a teen she was crowned Junior World Champion in target shooting, winning numerous metals and ribbons in various competitions. At age 19 she graduated from USC with a Certificate of Graduation of Dental Hygiene. She was a consummate cook and hostess and loved entertaining family and friends in her home. She surrounded herself with the of beauty of art, flowers, and in her last years found immense joy in spending time with her two cats, watching birds flock to the bird feeder outside her living room window and watching tennis. She was an avid reader and accomplished knitter, completing the last sweater she was working on a few weeks before her passing.
Her greatest achievement, however was the person she was. The very definition of unconditional love, she was the greatest support to her daughter throughout her life, a surrogate mother to her grandson, a friend as well as grandmother to her granddaughter, and affectionate great grandmother. Beyond the love she showered on her family and the caring she expressed to friends, she had a way of affecting people she barely knew. When we were out with her, people would make a point to pull us aside and say, “I love your mother!” She seemed to touch people with her sunny disposition and infectious smile.
She is survived by her daughter, Jaya Diane Maxon; her grandson, Aaron Tolchin; granddaughter, Kelli Murcko; grandson-in-law, John Murcko; great granddaughter, Melissa Murcko; great grandson, Elias Murcko.
She was preceded in death by her parents Nathaniel Blacher and Sarah Gordon Blacher; 1st husband Gerald Levine; 2nd husband Bruce Bayless; 3rd husband Bennett Brachman; daughter Karen Bayless; the parents, aunts and uncles on both her parent’s sides.
A private family ceremony is being held in the beautiful mountains of Santa Cruz overlooking Monterey Bay. A place she truly loved!!
In lieu of flowers, we would love for you to share a memory of Marjorie on the tribute wall if you have one.
