Our beloved sister, aunt, and friend passed away unexpectedly of dementia in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 19, 2021, at the age of 72.
Marie Hicken Lupo was born on January 28, 1949, in Heber City, Utah to Grant Murdock Hicken and Josie Todd Hicken. She grew up happily in Heber City with a brother and sister and lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins and friends. She graduated from Wasatch High School in 1967.
She was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her older sister, Sharon Hicken Wright (Dale) and her younger brother, Grant Todd Hicken, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her two cats, Smokey and Icee who will miss her.
Marie lived most of her adult life in Salt Lake City. She loved the Golden Eagles Hockey Team and was a member of the booster club for many years until 1994. She attended all the home games and many away games, eg: Dallas, Denver, etc.
After the Golden Eagles Hockey Team was sold, she decided to apply to join the SLC Mobile Watch. She was most proud of serving as a volunteer for the Mobile Watch/Volunteer Corp under the direction of the Salt Lake City Police Department for the past 25 plus years and as a coordinator for many years. She worked the July 24th Parade and Celebration, the First Encampment Celebration, the Deseret News Marathon, and all the weekends and holidays throughout the years until they stopped last year because of the Covid 19 pandemic.
She was employed with the O.C. Tanner Company for many years until retirement at age 65.
One of Marie's most cherished memories was her time as a volunteer driver at the 2002 Winter Olympics where she drove the athletes to all the venues and made many friends.
Marie was an avid reader and a big fan of all the Harry Potter books and movies, and also JRR Tolkien books and movies. She had many other favorite authors.
Marie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Thanks to all those at St. Joseph’s Villa Care Center and to Heber Valley Funeral Home. Viewing at Heber Valley Funeral Home at 11:00am prior to the services at 12:30pm, Monday, 29 March 2021.
