Margo Gene Strasser France
July 18, 1938- June 8, 2025
Margo Gene Strasser France, daughter of Margaret and Eugene Strasser, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, in her home in Midway, Utah, at the age of 86. She was a first-generation Swiss who grew up in Salt Lake City, graduating from West High School. While at BYU, she met her future husband, Ronald Boyd France, and transferred to the University of Utah, where she received her degree in Education.
Margo and Ron were married on September 15, 1958, in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They adopted their three children, Drew, Heather, and Margaret, as infants. They fostered Fred Sakizzie during the school years from elementary through high school. Vacations were spent traveling and camping throughout the western United States. In her children's younger years, she was highly creative by building amazing dollhouses, sewing doll clothes, and collecting miniatures. Her children were active in swimming and many other sports. Margo also loved to ski. When she wasn't raising her children, she worked in various school settings from kindergarten to Special Education to becoming a widely recognized librarian of excellence at Morningside Elementary.
Sewing and embroidery were just some of her incredible talents. She was an avid gardener, and her flower gardens were greatly admired by many. Her keenness to detail was evident in her other hobbies, too. She could do a 1000-piece puzzle in less than 24 hours. She loved collecting antiques, dolls, children's toys, Legos, and books.
Always dedicated to her Swiss heritage, Margo was an active member of the Swiss Choir Edelweiss. She received a grant to learn to play the Swiss button accordion in an attempt to preserve the tradition. She spent twenty years volunteering to run the Swiss food booth at the Living Traditions festival in Salt Lake, where she sold bratwurst and cake. Like a Swiss watch, she ran her life with precision and organization.
Margo had many circles of friends: long-time and recent neighborhood friends, book clubs, school and church groups, and most recently, the widows of Midway. She was known for her sense of humor and saying it like it is. She held nothing back. She cared for her friends and loved them deeply.
In January of 2000, Margo and Ron purchased 20 acres in the north fields of Heber. With their daughter Margaret, they started Northfield Stables. In 2002, they sold their house in Salt Lake City and moved full-time to Midway. At the stables, Margo created a special place for horses and their humans by creating beautiful gardens and a fun, peaceful environment. She made many dear friends, and her barn family will miss her greatly.
After retiring at the age of 75, she became a full-time grandma to her grandsons Jack and Matthew. She spent endless hours with them building Legos, decorating for holidays, traveling to sports events, having sleepovers, and keeping a full pantry of goodies. She was a devoted grandmother and loved them dearly. When joking with a friend about how many grandchildren and great-grandchildren he had, Margo said, “I went for quality and not quantity!”
Margo will be missed sincerely by her many friends and family. She is survived by her daughters, Heather France and Margaret Culley; son-in-law Larry Culley; grandsons, Jack and Matthew Culley; her brother, Delbert Strasser; and sister, Linda Vonk. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald France; and son, Drew France.
Margo's motto
“Try always to be like a good Swiss watch: open face, busy hands, pure gold, well-regulated, and full of good works."
