Margaret Elizabeth Crask Mcquarrie

Margaret, in her 100th year of life, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at
the Spring Gardens Assisted Living Center in Heber, Utah. She lived a long and productive life.
She was born to Harold Crask and Margaret Ellen Haythorn Crask on August 10, 1922, in Raton,
New Mexico. Margaret was their first child, and they later welcomed a son (Roy Irvine Crask),
and a daughter (Thelma Jean Crask).

Margaret was blessed with a keen intelligence, a gift in piano and organ, a love of sports, and
talent at creating things with her hands. Throughout her life she used these gifts in her family
and church to help others.

Margaret LOVED pink and everything from her clothing, home décor, and even the paint on the
outside of her home had pink tones. In her elderly years, she had a bright pink flowered walker
and was delighted to wear her hot pink pants on her 99th birthday party.

Margaret graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in science with high
honors receiving one of the eight keys to the Phi Beta Kappa National Honoring Scholastic
Society in June 1943. She married her college sweetheart Lamond Gurr McQuarrie on May 4,
1943, in Chicago, Illinois where Gurr was finishing medical school.

Margaret and her husband settled in the Salt Lake City area and were eventually blessed with
seven children. Margaret was a stay-at-home mom. While caring for her own children, she had
inclinations to look out for her neighbors too in socializing and serving.

Margaret worked alongside of her husband and sons running the 7-M Ranch in Heber, Utah for
many years. Her time was split between the Salt Lake home and Ranch home.

Margaret loved to explore Native American Indian ruins and used this theme in many of her
creations. She collected and wore Indian jewelry and visited the Indian villages in southwestern
states to buy right from the artist.

Margaret was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various callings
throughout her life. Margaret played the organ at church until she was 90 years old spanning
approximately 60 years. Margaret made delicious homemade candy every Christmas to share
with family and friends. Margaret loved to sew, design, and create North American Indian
themed needlepoint, beaded purses, quilts, and participate in a quilting club in Midway, Utah.
Her home was full of her many needlepoint pillows, quilts, and wall hangings. Her hands always
busy. There are many family members and friends that are recipients of her beautiful
handwork. Margaret’s other hobbies were travel, reading, and watching the Utah JAZZ
basketball team.

Margaret LOVED to golf and when retirement came, she was often found on the Wasatch Golf
Course with her friends.

Sweet memories include homemade caramels, Christmas Eves, Lake Powell and Colter Bay
trips, hummingbirds, and her green thumb. She could keep any plant alive no matter how badly
it looked when she received it.

Margaret lived on her own in the Swiss Oaks Condos in Midway, Utah until age 93. In October
2015, she became a resident of the Abbington Assisted Living Center in Heber, Utah which later
became the Spring Gardens Assisted Living Center. For the past 6 ½ years she has received such
tender care. Her family is so grateful to the dedicated and kind staff at Spring Gardens and the
excellent Canyon Home Health & Hospice caregivers.

Margaret is proceeded in death by her husband Lamond Gurr McQuarrie; son Mark Gurr
McQuarrie; daughter Marilyn McQuarrie; her parents Harold and Margaret Crask; sister Jean
Crask Raybould; brother Roy Irving Crask.

Margaret is survived by daughter Marsha Lang; son Marty McQuarrie; daughter Melissa Higgs
(Stephen); daughter Marlene Young; and son Mel McQuarrie (Rachel); seventeen grandchildren
and thirty-five great-grandchildren.

Margaret will be buried in the Midway Cemetery alongside her husband. A private family
graveside service is planned
