Our dear, loving father and friend, Lowell Ryan, age 96, returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 16, 2014. He had anxiously anticipated his reunion with his eternal companion, Maryan Duke Ryan, as well as many family members and friends.
Lowell was born April 17, 1917 in Center Creek, UT to William Homer Ryan and Sarah McDonald Ryan. He married the love of his life, Maryan Duke, on Sept. 19, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised five children, shining as an example of love and dedication to each other, and to their family. Lowell loved working on his farm and teaching his children the value of hard work. He also worked as a carpenter, working on many large commercial buildings in Salt Lake City and Provo, UT. His contributions to the construction of those buildings, many of which are landmarks today, were a source of pride to him. But his favorite place of all was at his home in Center Creek, surrounded by fields of alfalfa and grain. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in many positions.
Lowell was preceded in death by his wife, Maryan Ryan, a son, Richard William Ryan, and a grandson, Andrew Gary Ryan. He is survived by Kay Lowell Ryan (Arlene) West Jordan, UT, Vaun D. Ryan (Joan) Roosevelt, UT, Debbie Ryan (daughter-in-law) Littleton, CO, Jan Sweat (Allen) Center Creek, and Gary R. Ryan, Independence, UT, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
