Lora passed away peacefully on 11 December 2017 (just three days after turning 61) in the comfort of her own home, in Heber City, Utah, surrounded by; her husband, Troy; his mother, Carol; her oldest daughter, Katrina and her husband Chris, and their son Carson; and her Brother-in-Law, Clark. Her death was caused by complications of Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer, which when discovered, in her back, on 29 September 2017, was already Stage IV.
Born, 08 December 1956, in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, to Sadie Lorea (Ripley) Marks, and Maurice Russell Marks, Sr. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in Montana.
It was in Montana that she fell in love with the mountains. Shortly after her mission she moved to Utah and attended one quarter at Utah State University. She then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and worked in the banking department at J.C. Penney’s.
In the Fall of 1985, Lora met Troy while Square Dancing. Lora was already a very accomplished Square-dancer, Troy was just learning and having trouble. Lora was willing to help Troy learn. On, 07 August 1986, Lora and Troy were Sealed for “Time and all Eternity” in the Salt Lake City, Utah, Temple, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Lora was a convert to the Church, followed shortly by her parents. She has a testimony of the restoration of the Gospel. She loves her Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. She loves the Church. She loves the members of her Lake Creek Farms ward and the neighbors surrounding her home in Heber City, Utah.
Lora is a very tender-hearted, charitable and kind woman who put others needs above her own. She is always the first to volunteer help, to reach out to someone in need, or just to be a friend when she felt she could. She is very close with her family. She has a unique and special relationship with each of her children and a devotion to her husband that is unparalleled. She journeyed down many adventurous paths because of her devotion to family that she would not have otherwise chosen for herself.
Lora tried many things to find her talents. She found quilting to be her favorite and she excelled at it. She also enjoyed crafting, camping, reading and board/card games. She was very competitive at games and loved being around others as she played. She had many friends. At the request of her husband before her passing, he asked for birthday cards to be sent to her. She received around 120! Her smile and personality were infectious to anyone she met. During her fast paced and vigorous trial with cancer it was no surprise that she felt an overwhelming response of love, caring and loyalty from her close family members, friends and neighbors. Her heart and soul were overjoyed at the support she felt during her battle with cancer, which gave her, and Troy great peace.
Lora is preceded in death by; her brother, Gregory Dean Marks; her mother, Sadie Lorea (Ripley) Marks; her father, Maurice Russell Marks, Sr. She is survived by; her husband Troy LaMar Metcalf; along with three children, Katrina Lynn(Chris) Romrell; Stephen Troy Metcalf; Katelyn Dawn(Kevin) Sierer; and three grandchildren, Carson, Aliyah and Zayden.
