Lonie James Thompson, age 79, was born 6 December, 1942, in Heber City, Utah, to James Thompson and Nellie George. He passed away August 21, 2022, in Vineyard, Utah, after a long battle with Alzheimers. He was married to Suzette Kennedy on July 6, 1968, in the Idaho Falls Temple for time & all eternity.
He spent his childhood on the farm in Wallsburg, Utah. He was taught how to work by his parents. He enjoyed farm work and helping other people when he saw the need. He loved to make people laugh and enjoyed joking around. He enjoyed going up in the mountains to hunt, camp, and most of all, to cut wood.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Southern California when it only had two missions. He then served his country by joining the Navy, serving first on a WWII destroyer and second on the USS Puget Sound, a destroyer tender during the Vietnam era. He was mostly stationed on the East Coast in Norfolk, Virginia, and Newport, Rhode Island, with a “Med” Mediterranean cruise of 3 months.
He was a farmer at heart. He worked for the Wasatch School District as a custodian for 35 years before retiring. He and his wife served a service mission at the Lindon Cannery in Lindon, Utah. He was also very involved in family history work, opening up many familial lines through his thorough study of genealogy. He helped take care of his parents in their final years, always mindful of their needs. He was a great father, husband, and son, a friend to all.
Survived by his wife, Suzette, of Wallsburg, Utah; Children: Ruth Pargeter (Tom) & their children, Thomas, Matthew, and Joshua of Chandler, Arizona; Ross Thompson (Michele) & their children, Kaylyn and Nathan of Chandler, Arizona; Esther Thompson of Heber City, Utah; Jack Thompson (Kathleen), brother of Wallsburg; and Bryson Thompson (Erika) & their children, Terralynn and Skylem of Wallsburg, Utah; his brother Jack (Kathleen)Thompson of Wallsburg, Utah as well as nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents, Jim & Nellie Thompson; an infant brother; and aunts & uncles.
A viewing will be held in Lonie’s honor Friday, August 26th at 6-8pm. The funeral service will be held August 27th 2022, with a viewing from 9-10:30am, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00am. Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel in Wallsburg, Utah. Lonie Thompson will be interred at Wallsburg Cemetery following his services.
