Lois Price

September 11, 1926 — September 24, 2022

Lois Morrill Price peacefully passed away on September 24, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. She was born September 11, 1926, in Tridell, a small town in southeastern Utah, to Leland and Virley Morrill. At an early age her father passed away leaving her mother, two sisters, a brother and herself to provide for the family. Their only source of revenue was raising turkeys, which ended up being Lois’ primary responsibility. She hated turkeys!

The family Later moved to Daniels, Utah, with her mother’s new husband.
At the ripe old age of 16, Lois fell in love with a handsome US Navy Gunner’s Mate, John Edward Price who was stationed in San Francisco. They married in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 23, 1943. The first several years of their marriage were spent living in San Francisco where Jack was working. However they always dreamed of raising their family in Salt Lake City. Jack worked several jobs simultaneously and spent most of his spare time as the bishop of their LDS ward and caring for its members. Lois stayed home, patiently raising their eight children and trying to stretch every dollar. The days were long and the nights were short. There always seemed to be lessons, ball games, paper routes, or a church meeting to attend. Lois was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in countless callings, including a mission to Spokane, Washington, at age 67 and a 15 year calling in the ward Library being released at age 92.

Lois had a beautiful rose garden to the side of the house where she had several different varieties of roses, peonies, irises and other flowers that she planted and nourished. There was a second garden planted with vegetables that was mainly there to keep the kids busy pulling weeds. Lois loved her garden, she loved being outdoors—taking camping trips to the Spruces campground in Cottonwood Canyon, East Canyon and Yellowstone with wonderful neighbors, the Mitchell’s, the Austin’s, the Metcalfs, and other great friends in the Poplar Grove neighborhood. Homemade root beer was a staple on these camping trips.

Lois had many family-favorite dishes that she would prepare for special occasions and would spend weeks before Christmas baking and frosting sugar cookies for her grandchildren. Eggs-Golden-Rod was a Christmas morning tradition, served each year with the exact same menu: ambrosia salad and homemade hot chocolate. Lois was a serious creature of habit! Christmas was the one holiday that she insisted all of her children and grandchildren be in attendance. Santa Claus had a special gift for EACH of her 137 posterity and she always made certain that each gift was personally selected, wrapped, or baked. She kept this up until her death with the help of Louise and Sharon.

A favorite family trip was her 85th Birthday Mediterranean cruise to Barcelona, Spain; Rome, Italy; Nice, France; Greece and Turkey with all of her children and their spouses as well as three extra mothers-in-law. Although Sunday was spent at sea, Lois was insistent that there was never a good excuse for missing church. A small conference room was obtained and a meeting was held. By these small and consistent actions, and the sharing of her testimony of the Savior in all her words and deeds, she instilled in her family a strong faith and belief in Christ, prayer, and the keeping of sacred covenants.

In her 90th year she retired from her beloved Price’s Guaranteed Doors, where she had worked for 25 years and had created a tradition of bringing Dunford Donuts every Wednesday. If Dunford’s was closed then the employees went without. Lois was NOT flexible. She had her standards—-even in Donuts . The retirement was not her idea, but mainly for public safety reasons. She was very angry when it was deemed that she was unable to drive a car any longer. Lois proved her independence by living alone, at her home, on her own, on her own terms until the day she passed away. She worked very hard at completing all of her tasks by herself. Lois’ strong willpower, obsession with Jeopardy, and willingness to work kept her mind sharp. Also important was regularly playing games like Triominos, Racko and Rook with her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren until the very end of her life. She was a fierce competitor in all aspects, but a kind soul to anyone and everyone who needed someone to listen to their stories.

The funeral will be held Friday September 30, 2022, at the LDS Chapel located at 619 West 5750 South, Murray, Utah 84123, at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be at 9:00 – 10:30 AM that morning. She will be buried at the Heber City Cemetery at approximately 3:30 PM. Contact Heber Valley Mortuary at (435) 654-5458 for more information.
