Launie Hair Magnuson

July 16, 1942 — September 5, 2019

Launie Hair Magnuson July 16, 1942 – September 5, 2019
Launie Hair Magnuson, age 77, passed away in St George, Utah on September 5th, 2019 peacefully with family by her side.

She was born July 16th, 1942 to Thelma and Lavon Hair in Midway, Utah. She was their first child and remained their only child until her little brother Von was born 18 years later. Although she lived in several places and retired to St George, Midway always was and always will be her home. She loved the peaceful scenery, beautiful mountains, and wildlife that would often be in her backyard.

Launie married her sweetheart, Rulon Paul Magnuson, on March 23, 1974, and later had their marriage solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple. They made many wonderful memories together, but their favorites were all the camping and 4-wheeling trips they went on. Whether it was the Little Sahara Sand Dunes, Topaz Mountain, or Strawberry and Tropic Reservoirs, she was her happiest when she could be out in nature with her family and loved ones.

She had a love for life and often found joy in the simple things as opposed to material possessions. She loved flowers, sunsets, animals, going for a ride in the mountains and sitting on her front porch swing and talking. Above all Launie loved her family. Spending time with them was the source of her greatest happiness. She was always interested in what was going on in her children and grandchildren’s lives and never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud she was and express her love.

Launie worked many different jobs throughout her life but her favorite was running the gift shop at The Homestead Resort. She loved talking with travelers from around the world and making new friends. She was known as “the fudge lady” and chances are if you bought fudge in the 1990s or 2000s she was the one that made it.

She is survived by her husband Rulon Paul Magnuson, children Taunie Elrod, Trudie Cox (Jamie), Tim Magnuson (Steph) and Kameron Paul Magnuson (Shaylin), grandchildren Tyrel Thompson, Kelsey Rae Cook (Abe), Destinee Nicole Tingey (Taylor), Kamie Cox (Shoni), Jaxson Cox, Maiya Magnuson, Beckam Paul Magnuson and Skylar L Magnuson and great-grandchildren Grayson Tyrel Thompson, Taiden Daniel Thompson, Dylan Skylar Cook, Raea Hope Cook, and Brantley Nicole Tingey and her special little companion Belle.

She is preceded in death by both her parents (LaVon and Thelma Hair) and her brother Von Hair.

We’d like to express our gratitude and thanks to all the many wonderful people who have helped Launie over these past few years. Particularly the Huntsman Cancer Institute, the Palliative Care Team at Dixie Regional Medical Center, Coral Desert and Zion’s Way Home Health and Hospice. Thank you for easing our burden and taking care of our wife, mom, and grandma.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 12th, 2019 at the Memorial Hill Chapel in Midway, UT (250 East 200 South). There will be a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Midway Cemetery.
