Larry Bert Duke

January 26, 1933 — April 25, 2023

Larry Bert Duke passed away on April 25th in his little home in Heber at the age of 90. He was born in Heber City, Utah on January 26, 1933, to Seymour and Mary Ann Ludlow Duke. He served in the Army during the Korean war and furthered his education, graduating from Northwestern University in Chicago as a dentist. He married Joan Kinsey on May 26, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple and they are the parents of 5 children, all of whom are living. Mark (Kay), Mary Anne Taukiuvea (Viliami), Laural Takashima (Tak), Robert, (Dorinda) and Steven (Suzanne). They have been richly blessed with 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Dad was a generous man, who lived his life in service of others. He practiced his dentistry for many years in Heber (often doing services for free) and opened a dental clinic for those without insurance after retiring working in Heber, Ogden, and the Navajo nation. He taught dental school in Zimbabwe, Africa. He served his church well and is extremely proud of the time he and his wife worked with the people in New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. He forged and retained many friendships over the years with people from all over the world and gave them his time, his home, and his love. He loved his country and all that it stood for. He had the whole neighborhood participate in flag ceremonies every 4th of July and proudly flew the American flag outside his home. He contributed to his community, being active in Rotary and as a county commissioner. He loved taking his family on camping trips, teaching them how to fish and showing them how to waterski. He blessed his immediate children and their spouses by taking them all over the world and exposing them to so many countries (even though he gave them all wanderlust). He had a beautiful tenor voice and taught his children to love all types of music. He was a storyteller and could remember and quote the funniest of stories to us all. We’ll miss listening to his quips and tales, all the while laughing at his wonderful sense of humor. He still loved learning and read multiple books per week up until he passed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters and his lovely wife Joan, whom he missed every day.

We thank family, church, neighbors and friends who visited him, loved him, and cared for him through his last days. The time and efforts of the caring people at Tender Care Hospice and Heber Valley Assisted Living are much appreciated.
