“Teachers plant seeds that grow forever”.
A lifelong teacher with a love of learning, Kathryn Tingey completed her mortal test on February 11th, 2024.
The youngest child of Stuart Lorenzo and Elizabeth Palmer Tingey, Kathryn “Kathy” was born on March 16, 1948, in Brigham City, Utah. She grew up in Brigham City surrounded by many members of the Palmer and Tingey families. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1966 and went on to study Elementary Education at Utah State University in Logan. Upon graduation, Kathy started her long and rewarding career teaching elementary school in Howell, Utah.
In 1978, Kathy felt called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was assigned to the Mexico Hermosillo Mission from June 1978 – December 1979. After completing her service, she relocated to Heber City, Utah, to continue teaching. She remained in the Heber Valley for the rest of her life, impacting countless lives as a 4th Grade Teacher for J.R. Smith Elementary. She officially retired from the Wasatch School District in 2014, but her love for teaching didn’t stop there.
Kathy was a gifted musician, playing both the violin and the piano. She served in many different church callings throughout her life, but the calling she treasured most was Primary Accompanist. She was an avid reader who collected many books and was eager to share them with friends, family, and students. She was known for her spunky sense of humor and was never afraid to speak her mind.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; as well as her older sister, Joan Tingey Johnson. She is survived by her older brother and sister-in-law, Palmer, and Barbara Tingey; her brother-in-law Philip B. Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
