Karey Ann Allred, 63 of Heber City, Utah, started her final camping trip on Saturday, February 6, 2021 in her home surrounded by her family, where she lost her hard -fought battle with the evils of pancreatic cancer. Karey was born March 6, 1957 in Heber City Utah to Horace R. Schooler (Pitch) and Nanette Schooler (Webster). She graduated from Wasatch high school where she was a proud member of the Waspettes drill team.
Karey married her high school sweetheart Douglas R. Allred on August 31, 1974 in Charleston Utah. They honeymooned on a camping trip in the Uintas, which is where they camped every year since for their anniversary. Karey and Doug had two children Clayton R. (Mandie) and Lindsey Baum. Four grandchildren that she could not spoil enough Colter & Ridger Allred, Meadow Baum, and Pfeiffer Richwine.
Karey worked at the Wasatch wave when she was in high school. Then the Valley Drug, Palace Drug, P&R cleaning and the Homestead. In March 2020 she retired from the Wasatch County library after 27 years of service. Karey made lifelong friends everywhere she worked.
Karey was the greatest giver of the little things. Whether they were baked, cooked or bought because it reminded her of someone. Karey treated everyone special, she had an innate ability to make people feel loved, accepted and important. and was always sensitive to other’s needs, especially her family. Nobody ever stepped on the back porch or in the door way that Karey didn’t make feel welcome and at ease. The same can be said for our camping trips which is why our small shrimp boil in a 30quart pot has turned into a big bash with a giant pot and everyone knows they’re welcome. Camping with family and friends was her favorite passion. No greater times were spent than around a campfire. Karey spent her yearly vacation on a 10-day camping trip by herself, where only her and the dog were allowed. Doug would come up once during the 10 days to cut more firewood and make sure she had enough water. This was her special time to do what she wanted, when she wanted, how she wanted.
Karey loved to find a bargain and her kids and grandkids were often the recipient of such bargains. She would sit down days in advance and make her shopping list, it was something amazing to behold when she got to the checkout stand and was only pennies off what she had calculated the total would come to. Her love of finding a bargain was only eclipsed by her love for her friends and family, it didn’t matter if she was tired, in pain or just plain busy she’d make time for you, especially for her grandkids they were the light of her life. She started watching her grandkids when they were brand new babies and they are still hanging out there now.
Karey loved to decorate especially for the holidays. She would decorate her home first and then the library for all the years she worked there. Her favorite holiday to decorate for was by-far Christmas and everything got decorated and took weeks to complete. Along with her love of decorating for the holidays was her love of traditions. In November we would stand in line to get our Christmas tree permits then head to the mountains and begin the search for the perfect Christmas trees, cut them down, then celebrate our harvest with a picnic lunch by the fire. The rest of the month was spent getting ready for Christmas Eve and homemade Chinese food for dinner. This was Karey’s way of spreading Christmas cheer to everyone she loved and just one of the many traditions that will be continued in honor of her memory.
Karey is survived by her loving husband Doug. Son Clayton (Mandie) Allred, daughter Lindsey Baum, grandkids Colter and Ridger Allred, Meadow Baum and Pfeiffer Richwine, Brother Jay (Patti) Schooler, Aunts Annette Jones, Jud Webster, Sue (Glen) Anderson, Uncle Lou Webster, Jay R.
