June Mair

June 4, 1926 — October 17, 2014

Our sweet Grandma June (as she was known to all in her family) joined her Father in Heaven on October 17, 2014. She passed away peacefully in her Heber City home. She was born June 4, 1926 to Gus William and Mary Louis Sweatfield. She was the 5th of 10 children. In 1942 she married her sweetheart Darrell (Buck) Mair. Together they had three children. Buck passed away at an early age, leaving Grandma to take over all household and family responsibilities. She worked very hard and did so without a single complaint. After raising her own children, she helped to raise many grandchildren who were the light and joy in her life

The most important thing to Grandma June was her family. Her small home was covered wall to wall with pictures of her posterity. She looked forward to visits and phone calls and especially enjoyed babysitting and looking after the little ones. Her favorite pastime was playing cards. She loved to play with anyone and everyone “as long as you don't cheat!” Even in her last weeks here on earth, she was quoted as saying “television is a waste of time!” She was a perfect example of living a contented life and finding joy in the simple things.

Dear Sweet Grandma, we will never forget you: your ability to serve us; to love us without judgment; your hands, weathered from years of hard work, folded peacefully on your lap; your piercing blue eyes; and the way you threw back your head when you laughed. You endured countless hardships and much physical pain without a single complaint. You were strong and yet gentle. We love you dearly and miss you already.

Grandma June was preceded in death by her loving parents and eight of her siblings, her husband Buck, and her son-in-law Jerry Chatwin. We are certain her reunion was joyous. She is survived by her sister Gladys Sessions, her children: Darrell and Carol Mair, Rozella Chatwin, and Leanna and Joe Mair, as well as 17 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. We would like to thank the many people who helped care for Grandma in her final months including nurses, staff members, volunteers, and many caring family members and friends.
