Julie Rae Paschal Peterson

May 9, 1937 — December 29, 2019

MIDWAY – Julie Rae Paschal Peterson—beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother—passed peacefully at 82 years old on December 29, 2019.

Julie was born on May 9, 1937 to Joan and Fred Paschal. When she was two years old, her father Fred tragically died in a car accident. Her childhood years were happily spent in Annabella, Utah, with her mother and two sisters, Patricia and Lynne. When Julie was 12, her mother Joan married Reed Rasmussen.

Julie met her husband Gordon Peterson while attending Brigham Young University when they were both cast in the play, “The Boyfriend” in which she played the lead. They married on June 4, 1960 in the LDS Manti Temple. This coming June would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary. Julie graduated with a degree in education and taught third grade for two years before beginning a family.

Julie devoted her life to her family and the gospel of Jesus Christ. She served and ministered selflessly, opening her home and heart to friends and family in need. She found peace and joy in attending the temple, studying the scriptures, and serving in church callings.

Julie served three missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with her husband Gordon, serving in the West Indies Mission (January 2000 – July 2001), the Utah Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission (October 2003 – October 2004), and in the Heber Valley Region, as a church service missionary (June 2005 – December 2006).

Music played an integral part of Julie’s life. She served for many years as a ward chorister, choir director, and during her mission, directed the Missionary Choir on Temple Square.

Julie’s vibrant personality and playful nature made her one of a kind. Generous with her love and affection, she held space in her heart and in her home for all who needed comfort. Her laugh and encouragement uplifted many.

Julie’s passions included reading, journaling, exercising, and spending time with her husband, 6 children and their spouses, 26 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

We will remember her warmth, empathy, enthusiasm, and grace. We will miss her thoughtful and frequent email updates which kept her family connected to each other.

Julie is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gordon Peterson; her children, Jordan Peterson, Lezlie Peterson Evans, Whitney Peterson, Cameron Peterson, Christian Peterson, and Brennan Peterson.

She is now reunited with her beloved parents and sisters, Patricia Gleave and Lynne Snyder.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Deer Creek Building located at 1102 S. Center Street, Midway, UT 84049 on Saturday January 4th, 2020 at 12:00 pm. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:30 am – 11:30 at the same venue. Friends and family may view the online guestbook and share a memory of Julie at www.probstfamilyfunerals.com .
