Jon Kevin Winterrose, age 65, slipped through the veil of this earth on May 21, 2023 into the arms of his loving father and mother.
Kevin was born September 15, 1957, in Heber City, Utah to Willam Albert and Jaqueline Lythgoe Winterrose. At the tender age of 5 months, he was diagnosed with a coarctation of the aorta. Because of his fighting spirit and the loving care of his family, he beat all odds and lived life to the fullest.
His voice was raspy and gruff from the minute he started talking due to his vocal chord being cut during his heart surgery. Grandma and grandpa, Mike and Rae Lynne were his protectors and the neighbor kids knew it. His childhood was full of adventure, mischief and lots of fun. As he grew, his love of modifying bicycles changed to cars and motorcycles. He has fond memories of time spent with his cousins at grandpa and grandma Lythgoe’s ranch in Pleasant Valley and many camping and hunting trips with family and friends. He attended Central Elementary, Wasatch Jr. High and graduated from Wasatch High School where he was Senior Class president. He attended Utah Tech where he received his truck driving certification. He was an Eagle Scout and he shared his love of scouting with his sons and many young men.
In the fall of 1976, while attending Utah Technical College, he met a country girl, Jill Bleazard, and the rest was history. Kevin and Jill were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on July 7, 1977. They were blessed with three sons who bring much joy to their life. Whether working or playing they did it together. Later as grandchildren came along, he spent his days tending them, spoiling them with treats and taking them for rides on his jazzy. He was the jazzy grandpa with suckers at all the football games and even at church.
He learned to work at a young age working at the family businesses. Later he worked alongside his dad in the lumber business and construction. He was a natural behind the wheel of a dumptruck, backhoe or trackhoe. He started KW Excavating with an old blue dumptruck, a backhoe and Jill as his right-hand gal. It was the perfect occupation to teach his sons the value of hard work. He loved hunting and spending time with his family.
Kevin was in the first EMT class taught in the state of Utah. He spent many years serving the community as a volunteer with the Wasatch County Ambulance and Wasatch County Search and Rescue.
He is a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served on the high council, as a scout leader, elder’s quorum president, Sunday school secretary, 2nd counselor in the bishopric, and primary teacher. He would ride his “jazzy” through rain and snow to deliver the attendance rolls for Sunday school. His testimony of the gospel gave him much comfort during his last few months.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, George and Lillie Lythgoe and John and LaPreal Winterrose; brother-in-law, Mark Kohler. He is survived by his eternal companion, Jill; his sons: Rodney Kevin, Ryan Jon (Mandie) and Bradley B. (Natasha). He is the proud grandpa to Abbie, Ryder, Avery, Allie, Izzi, Ceni, William and Grant. He is also survived by his sister, Rae Lynne (Mark) Kohler and brother, Michael (Treo) Winterrose and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Heber 3rd/4th Ward Chapel at 240 E 400 S, Heber City, Utah on Wednesday, May 31 at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening at the church from 6 pm – 8 pm and Wednesday from 9:00 am to 10:30 am prior to the service.
