Jolene Giles peacefully passed away at the age of 92 on August 18, 2021 in Seasons of Santaquin Assisted-living. She was born on April 18, 1929 in Talmage Utah. Her parents were Joseph and Norma Josie.
Jolene was born during the depression so she learned to work hard and make do with very little. At sixteen she married her high-school sweetheart Ralph Giles and they were together for 38 years. Together they raised five kids. One of the special stories she loved to share was washing diapers on a washboard and what a fun surprise it was when she finally got an indoor bathroom and hot water while in the hospital after having her forth baby. In her younger years her and Ralph would ride horses in the Granddaddy Lakes often with friends and family. Sometimes they would take the kids and it was a real treat for them. She was an amazing cook and we all sure enjoyed her homemade pumpkin pies, bread and fried chicken. She spent many hours cooking for thrashing and hay crews each summer. She always raised a beautiful garden. Jolene always loved old country music especially Johnny Cash and Alan Jackson. She loved watching old westerns, Gun Smoke being her favorite. She was an avid reader and always had a good book to read when she went to bed. Through the years her favorite past time was following her children and grandchildren in sports, she never missed a game. At one point she had an obsession with the Utah Jazz when her star players John Stockton and Karol Malone played. Her favorite hobby was bragging about her grandchildren.
Jolene is survived by her five children. Carolyn (Voy) Stewart of Sandy, LaVon (Diane, deceased) Giles of Altamont, Dale (Lenna) Giles of Tabiona, Jan (Ervan) Rhoades of Tabiona, Hal (Terri) Giles of Tabiona, 24 Grandchild, 75 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandchildren. Sister Nola (John) Reid of West Jordan and Brother Bennet (Alfield)Josie of St George.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Norma Josie, Brothers Jack, Darell, Lane Josie, sister Margie and her sweet daughter in-law Diane.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 26 at 12 PM at the Tabiona Ward House with a viewing from 10 to 11:30 AM. Burial to follow at the Tabiona Cemetery.
Family would like to give special thanks for all the wonderful care given to her by Richard and his staff at Seasons of Santaquin. Also the amazing people from Yarrow Hospice- especially Tiona, Tanner, Tangee and Jenny.
