Johnny G Remund, age 86, passed away in his home with his daughter by his side on February 25, 2023, in Midway, Utah.
He was born on August 20, 1936 to George and Cynthia Remund in Midway, and grew up on Main Street, on the family dairy farm. He would help milk cows everyday before and after school. After having graduated from Utah State University, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany in the early 1960’s, including in Berlin during the Berlin Wall Crisis. It was in Germany that he met the love of his life, Gretchen Klauss, whom he married in 1963 and with whom he spent many happy decades until her passing two years ago.
Johnny was an ambitious, hard-working man who created a successful company, selling and installing calibration equipment in food plants all over the western states and Hawaii.
In the late 1970’s, Johnny and Gretchen built a beautiful home in Midway’s Dutch Canyon.
There Johnny raised oats and alfalfa the old-fashioned way, which meant flood-irrigating at all hours of the night.
With his wife Gretchen, Johnny enjoyed numerous trips to Germany and annual visits to state and national parks with their daughter and five grandchildren. He created a fun program of events for his grandkids when they spent their summer vacations in Midway. In the evenings, he would live up to his title of superscooper by serving up generous portions of ice cream for all.
Johnny was a devoted, loving husband, gently and patiently caring for his wife in her final months. He was a devoted, loving father, great-grandfather, brother, and a kind friend and neighbor.
Johnny missed his dear Gretchen for two years and was looking forward to being reunited with her. He is survived by his daughter Cornelia, his grandchildren Rolf, Jens, Sonja, Petra, and Andreas, his great-grandsons Cedar and Sylvo, his brother and spouse Bud and Marcia Remund, his sister and spouse Cindy and Gil Williams, his sister-in-law Vickie Remund, the extended loving Remund family, countless friends, and his cat Snoopy.
A graveside funeral will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Midway cemetery. Friends and family may also visit the online guestbook at probstfamilyfunerals.com and share a memory of Johnny.
