John Wayne Lloyd, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on November 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 29th, 1937, to Earl G Lloyd and Aritha Murdock Lloyd. He was a self-made man, a hard worker, and a pillar of his family and community.
On November 1st, 1957, John Wayne married the love of his life, Joyce Jacobson. They were later sealed in the Provo Utah Temple on June 20, 1990, for time and all eternity. Their union was one of unwavering commitment and love that lasted for over 66 years. Together, they created a beautiful home filled with warmth and love for their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
When a life passes that was well lived, it is difficult to find the right words. John Wayne was raised in the Strawberry Valley, where a piece of his heart always remained. He found solace and joy in the great outdoors. He loved fishing and spent many peaceful hours on the water, casting his line into the beautiful Strawberry Reservoir while enjoying the beauty of the mountains with his brothers, friends, and grandchildren. He took every opportunity to share his life experiences about pioneering roads and dams, chariot racing, mechanical work, fishing, and his memories of his childhood in the Strawberry Valley, with those around him.
He was known for his strong work ethic and dedicated himself to providing for his family and ensuring their happiness. One of John Wayne's greatest passions was serving others. He had a heart of gold and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether it was helping a family member excavate their basement, riding horses with search and rescue, or plowing snow for neighbors and the elderly, his generosity knew no bounds. John Wayne spent his time in his later years at dance recitals, soccer games, cheerleading events, and driving his truck and trailer to rodeos around the state. He was always his family's greatest supporter. He will be remembered for his selflessness and the positive impact he had on countless lives.
His love of horses led to many years spent with the Heber Valley Riding Club, chariot and quarter horse racing, and taking his grandchildren for rides in the mountains. John Wayne lived up to his name by being a cowboy through and through in his younger days and watching westerns in his older days. For years you could find him at 10 am every morning visiting with the members of the “Diers Club” at the Hub Cafe sharing memories from the good ol’ days.
John Wayne Lloyd was a remarkable man who will be deeply missed. His legacy of hard work, kindness, love, and devotion to family and community will continue to inspire and guide those who loved him.
“The true measure of a man’s life is the love he leaves behind in the hearts of those he’s touched”. John Wayne Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Lloyd, their children DeAnna Lloyd, Debra (Kendall) Quarnberg, Teri (Quinn) Rich, and Shonna (Shane) Luke, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was also survived by his sister LaNae Fitzgerald. His memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
