John Devar Giles "Cheese"

October 31, 1937 — November 2, 2023

John DeVar Giles “Cheese”, 86, passed away on November 2, 2023, in Tabiona, Utah. He was born October 31, 1937, in Heber City, Utah to John Arthur and Phyllis Hicken Giles. He married Chloe Mecham in 1956 and later divorced. He later married Sheri Shumway, they later divorced.

Cheese was a man of many talents. First and foremost, he was an “All American Cowboy”. Part of the wild bunch of Tabiona. He rode horses, chased cows and horse traded. He was a terror of local bars and loved a good fight. Cheese worked the mines in Park City, Utah, on the Alaskan pipeline, and many tunnel jobs for the central Utah water project.

He is survived by his daughters, Peggy (Dean) Sweat, Pam Richins, Kori (Roger) Frantz, his son Steven Giles, his sister Joyce Coleman, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents John and Phyllis Giles, and his brothers Ronnie and Steven Giles.

A viewing will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, located at Probst Family Funeral Home (79 E Main St Midway, UT 84049). A graveside service will be held the next day, Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 2:00pm located at Tabiona-Redcliff Cemetery (5050 N Tabby Ln Tabiona, UT 84072).
